Danville Funeral services for Melanie A. Mitchell, 65, were held Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with Bro. Joe David Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Herring Cemetery. Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 4, 1959, to Ruben and Lois Nichols. Prior to her retirement, she was a nurse practitioner at Encompass Health. She was an avid equestrian and loved competing in dressage with her horse, PC. She met her husband, Brent, in Marion, Ala., in 1977, when he was a freshman at Marion Military Institute and she was a senior at Francis Marion High School. She was drum major, first-chair saxophonist, valedictorian, and Junior Miss. She received a full scholarship to Judson College for Junior Miss and was captain of the riding team. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, R. Brent Mitchell; son, Dustin Mitchell (Josey); daughter, Kathryn Lipson (Ryan); brother, Ruben Vaughn Nichols Jr.; sisters, Janice Heacock and Marilyn Nichols; and grandchildren, Ollie, EMJ, and Finn.
