How did you two meet?
Alan and I met at a mutual friend’s going away party that I wasn’t originally supposed to attend. I still remember thinking “he must be important” because we didn’t talk much, but we immediately connected. I think God was nudging me, saying “That’s him!” He added me as a friend on social media afterwards, but he didn’t ask me out until a few months later. We had our first date at a steakhouse, and now we go back to eat there annually each June.
The Proposal:
I was suspicious of a proposal when he told me a few days before flying out that he had planned a trip for us to New York City for Christmas. I am usually our travel planner! The first day of our trip we walked around the Christmas markets and made our way through the city. He proposed to me in Central Park in front of the Bethesda Fountain while rain fell, and local performers serenaded us in the background.
The Wedding Dress:
I found my dress at David’s Bridal in Huntsville. I knew as soon as I put it on that it was exactly what I’d been looking for. It reminded me of old Hollywood glamour. It just had a romantic look, and that was exactly what I was going for.
Favorite Moment from the Big Day: From start to finish this day was wonderful, but I think my favorite moment had to be sharing our personal vows. We laughed and cried happy tears, and it really set the tone for the rest of the evening. Our photographer stood back so it was truly just Alan and me – finally husband and wife.
What You Are Doing Now:
Today we are both living in Danville with our three dogs. We are always spending our free time with one (or three) of our many nieces or nephews. Both of us own and operate our own separate businesses so we stay busy, but in the best way!
