Hartselle native nominated to be ambassador of Mexico
A Hartselle native and graduate of Morgan County High School has been nominated to be the next ambassador to Mexico.
Ronald D. Johnson graduated from Morgan County High School in 1970. President-elect Donald Trump announced on social media last month he nominated Johnson for the ambassadorship. Johnson previously served as the ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador from 2019-21 under President Trump.
Johnson is a former U.S Army Green Beret. According to his LinkedIn profile, Johnson went to work for the CIA as a senior and para-military operations officer in 1998.
Johnson is the son of Beatrice Chenault-Johnson and the late Irvin Johnson of Hartselle.
“I’m also deeply honored that President-elect Trump has placed his faith and confidence in me to represent the U.S. in such an important role,” Johnson shared on LinkedIn.
“I have a great deal of respect for the elected representatives of this republic, and I look forward to meeting with members of the U.S. Senate during the time-honored process of senate confirmation, and to a continuing dialogue with members of congress if I am fortunate enough to be confirmed.
I’m eager to meet Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and ready to work with her administration on issues that are mutually beneficial to both our nations.”
