Sue Anderson Murphree
Decatur A graveside funeral service and interment for Sue Anderson Murphree, 83, will be Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Chaplain Rich Thompson officiating. No public visitation is scheduled. Mrs. Murphree passed away Dec. 16, 2024, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 3, 1941, in Calhoun County to Charles Alexander Anderson and Mary Louise Nabors Anderson. Mrs. Murphree, affectionately known as “Poppy Sue,” graduated from Piedmont High School and earned a B.S. in Education from Auburn University in 1966. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and retired as Director of Headstart and Community Action Partnership of North Alabama.
Survivors include her daughters, Kim Herring Dodd (Thomas) and Stacy Herring Kwapiszewski; son, James F. “Trey” Herring III; stepchildren, Lila E. Murphree, Atlee Sample Murphree, and Van Quinn Murphree; grandchildren, Tucker Anderson Dodd (Katelyn), Kaleigh Elizabeth Dodd, Davis Stanford Dodd, Cullen James Kwapiszewski (fiancé Lauren Gaydosh), Conner Charles Kwapiszewski (Madison), Carson Kenneth Kwapiszewski, and Mary Linlee Herring; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Murphree, and her parents. The family thanks Hospice of the Valley and Dr. John Irle for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels and/or Hospice of the Valley.
