Crestline student honored for exceptional achievement

The Alabama Association for Gifted Children (AAGC) plays a vital role in advocating for and supporting educators, parents, and community members in addressing the needs of gifted students across the state. Each year, the AAGC hosts a student video contest that invites young minds to share their perspectives on giftedness and the importance of gifted education. The theme for this year’s contest was “Celebrating 30 Years of Nurturing Gifted Minds.”
Anna Reese Kersey, a third-grade student at Crestline Elementary, earned top honors in the individual video competition. Filming her entry around her school, Kersey showcased the exciting world of robotics and drones, demonstrating how these innovations have shaped the future. Her video highlighted how Crestline’s gifted students are given opportunities to explore, grow, and become lifelong learners and problemsolvers. In celebration of the 30-year milestone, Kersey even filmed segments at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and had the thrilling experience of riding in a Tesla.
In her video, Kersey explains the importance of diverse minds in creating remarkable inventions. “I was in the car with my mom when she suddenly grinned and showed me her phone,” she recalls. “She had a message that read, ‘Congratulations! AAGC is pleased to inform you that Anna Reese Kersey’s video “30 Years of Nurturing Gifted Minds” has been selected for the 2024 AAGC Individual Gifted Students Video Award.’ I was so happy to read that.”
Kersey was later honored at an award ceremony where she received a trophy and a $50 Amazon gift card.
