Hartselle man arrested for domestic violence after shooting incident
A Hartselle man was arrested Sunday evening and charged with domestic violence in the first degree following a shooting incident at a residence on Barkley Bridge Road.
Jerry Oneal Hutto, 75, is being held on a $200,000 bond after allegedly shooting his wife in the back during a domestic dispute.
When officers responded to the scene at 1623 Barkley Bridge Road in Hartselle, Hutto had fled the scene.
Hutto was located and arrested without incident by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Morgan County Jail.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Hutto fired a shot that struck his wife in the back. A family member, who was present during the altercation, may have been able to intervene before Hutto could fire again, authorities said.
The victim was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment but is expected to survive, with officials stating that her injuries are not life-threatening. Investigators are currently on their way to the hospital to obtain additional information regarding her condition.
