For the Enquirer
The Hartselle Tigers’ wrestling program is under new leadership as Ashton Quattlebaum takes over as the new head coach. He replaces Joe Hill, who left for Bob Jones. Quattlebaum was an assistant at Gardendale and McAdory before coming home to Hartselle.
“I think we will have a great season as our starting line-up is very senior heavy,” Quattlebaum said. “With the increased events and mat time we should see some record-breaking performances. My staff and I will look to help our seniors reach their goals, while building up the younger wrestlers that we have on the team.” The team is led by several senior standouts in Jameson Falciani, Gage Roberts, Jacob Doshier, Garrett Willingham and Jackson Schutt. Each placed in the state tournament last season but look to improve this season.
Jameson Falciani and Gage Roberts are currently ranked first in various state rankings in their individual weight classes, while the others are in the top four.
Falciani has his eyes on winning a state championship this season as well as breaking the NFHS National pin record of 69 set by Gabriel Warren of Spanish Fort in 2019.
Currently, he has 19 wins with 15 pin falls. He has 62 possible matches left in the season.
Tiger Duals Hartselle hosted the Tiger Duals this past weekend. The Tigers went undefeated and won the event. They won their pool by defeating Munford (Tenn.), Northridge and Mae Jemison.
