Hartselle schools honor teachers, support staff of the year
Deserving teachers and support personnel serving Hartselle City Schools were recently surprised when visitors from the central office announced Teacher of the Year awards, with a visit to each recipient at their respective schools.
For the seventh year in a row, deserving educators and support personnel have been recognized by coworkers with Teacher of the Year awards just prior to Christmas break. From the slate of winners, a committee selected one individual to represent the entire Hartselle City School district as Teacher of the Year.
Tina Towers, elementary curriculum coordinator for HCS and leader of the selection committee explained that district winners will have an opportunity to submit a packet for the Alabama Teacher of the Year Award in January, with a choice to receive a $1,500 grant for their classroom or attend the Blue Ribbon Conference for Alabama educators.
The recipients of the 2024 Teacher of the Year Awards were: Laura Gaskin from Barkley Bridge Elementary, Christy Bennich from Crestline Elementary, Susan England from F.E. Burleson Elementary, Heather Morrow from Hartselle Intermediate, Brittany Moore from Hartselle Junior High, and Austyn Randolph from Hartselle High School. The Support Person of the Year Awards for 2024 were presented to Heather Olejnik from Barkley Bridge Elementary, Sheryl Sharp from Crestline Elementary, Tanya Yocum from F.E. Burleson Elementary, Tara Mobbs from Hartselle Intermediate, Angelica Robles from Hartselle Junior High, and Amy Butler from Hartselle High.
Brittany Moore (HJHS) was named Secondary School Teacher of the Year for Hartselle City Schools, and Elementary Teacher of the Year for the district was Christy Bennich (CES).
Bennich was also recognized Dec. 13 as the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce’s SuperStar Teacher for the month of December and presented with a $150 gift card for her classroom, a $50 gift card for personal use, and a $1,000 grant awarded to Crestline Elementary School from the Chamber’s One Vision Foundation. The Chamber’s SuperStar Teacher program celebrates outstanding educators in the Decatur-Morgan County area.
