Wanda Fay Daniel Black
Trinity A funeral service for Wanda Fay Daniel Black, 82, of Trinity, was held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Myron Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at Hartselle Memory Gardens Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing the arrangements. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
Ms. Black was born on July 20, 1942, in Huntsville, Alabama, to William Samuel Daniel and Oma Edwards Daniel. She passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at her residence. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Steve Brooks and Eddie Brooks, her son Jerry D’Wade Bunnell, and Charles Melvin Black, the father of her children.
From a young age, Wanda had big dreams and the determination to make them a reality. She believed in her own potential and the potential of those around her, always offering encouragement and a smile to everyone she met. Wanda was passionate about music and was a long-time member of the Decatur Music Club, where she served as President for several years. She also adored her fur babies, Beka and Jake, who brought her much joy, along with her many close friends. Betty Flowe
Decatur Betty Flowe, 83, of Decatur, passed away peacefully Dec. 5, 2024, at her home, with her daughter and sonin-law by her side. Born Dec. 26, 1940, in Halifax, North Carolina, to Katie and Fred Podruchny, Betty worked in the furniture industry with her husband for many years. In their retirement, they ran Burningtree Country Club. Betty and her husband, Tom, were married for 57 years and were rarely seen apart. She loved traveling and watching her grandsons, Mac and Sam Murphy, play golf. Betty was an amazing mother and grandmother, and she will be deeply missed. She never met a stranger and is now greeting everyone in Heaven with her signature “Hi dear.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Katie and Fred Podruchny; her husband, Tom Flowe; and her brother, Grady Podruchny. Betty is survived by her daughter, Jan Murphy (Billy); her brother, Fred Podruchny Jr. (Jean); her sister, Mary Ann Sorie (Billy); and her sister-inlaw, Faye Podruchny; her brother-in-law, Gene Flowe (Pat); and her grandsons, Mac and Sam Murphy. A memorial service was held Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602.
Gene Callahan
Gene Callahan, 81, of Somerville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 9, 1943, in Morgan County, to Robert Louis Callahan and Lela Pannell Callahan. Gene loved working on mechanics, helping others, and farming. He was also an avid football fan. Gene was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three brothers, James Callahan, Marshel Callahan, and Bobby Callahan; and one sister, Nell Oden. No public services are scheduled at this time.
Nancy C. Dallas
Hartselle Ms. Nancy C. Dallas, 71, of Hartselle, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at Decatur Health & Rehab Center. She was born June 28, 1953, in Sullivan County, Tennessee, to Dr. John L. Dallas and Sue C. Carrell.
Nancy was raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. She worked as a physician assistant at various hospitals, the V.A. Clinic in Huntsville, and for several oncologists during her career. A Methodist by faith, she enjoyed blues music, traveling, going to movies, reading, and was an avid animal lover. Nancy was also active in her community, volunteering for Hospice of the Valley, Camp Hope, and conducting pet therapy at various nursing homes. She was a member of the Decatur Hospital Bosom Buddies Support Group and often gave presentations to veterans to express gratitude for their service. She was a caring and giving person who will be missed by all who knew her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan D. Grubbs.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Cheny; stepdaughter, Melissa C. Agnese; brothers, William L. Dallas, M.D., and John S. Dallas, M.D.,; sister, Donna Balliet; and two grandchildren.
Steven Glenn Knight
Huntsville Steven Glenn Knight of Huntsville passed away Dec. 8, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Peck Funeral Home Chapel Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. with Greg Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Hartselle Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Knight was born March 15, 1962, at Hartselle Hospital to Clifton and Geanell Knight. He graduated from Morgan County High School (now Hartselle High School) in 1980. Steven was employed by Halsey Foodservice in Huntsville, where he enjoyed his job and the camaraderie with his colleagues. Before joining Halsey, he worked at the Space and Rocket Center and Trader Joe’s.
Family was very important to Steven, and he was especially close to his three nieces, with whom he spent many hours playing cards and board games. He also looked forward to and cherished the annual family vacation every June. Known for his quick wit and big heart, Steven shared close friendships with many, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Knight.
Survivors include his mother, Geanell Knight; sister, Pam Gray (Jeff ); brother, Cliff Knight (Renee); nieces, Brandi Gray, Meaghan Hill (Joseph), and Amber Fullerton (Justin); greatniece, Layla Fullerton; stepdaughter, Sarah Horton (Daniel); and his dear friends, Anita and Ellen.
