The blessing of connection
Millions of people will travel to visit family and friends during the holiday season. For some, it may feel like a chore or something to dread. Yet, when we pause to reflect on the blessings that come from being together, it becomes something to truly look forward to.
In our country, the holiday season centers on the birth of Christ. The Bible recounts a profound moment of togetherness in Luke 1, when Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. Something extraordinary happened during that visit-Elizabeth’s baby leapt in her womb, and she was filled with the Holy Spirit simply by being in the presence of Jesus. For Mary, this visit confirmed what the angel had told her: she was carrying the Son of God. Being with Elizabeth made God’s promise come alive for Mary in a pow erful and tangible way.
The same can be true for us during the holidays. As we gather with loved ones, we’ll hear about the blessings and changes in their lives-stories we might have missed other wise. These moments often bring to mind familiar Bible verses or lessons, and in those connections, God can become more real to us. Through the joy and shared experiences of togetherness, we may see His presence in new and unexpected ways.
In the weeks to come, we’ll explore the many blessings that come with being together during this special season. Let’s embrace the opportunity to see God at work in our gatherings and celebrate the joy of connection this holiday season.
