Making merry: Christmas season in full gear

Sightings of Santa Claus, hot cider tastings, tree lightings and holiday music concerts fill the calendar as the countdown to Christmas has begun.
To celebrate the season, parades, tree trails, open houses and more will Hartselle and the surrounding communities with cheer. Check out this guide to the area’s holiday events and attractions.
Dec. 7: Priceville Sheila Smith Christmas Parade at 2 p.m., begins at Robinson Street and North Bethel Road and ends at Faye Drive and North Bethel Road. Rain date is Dec. 14.
Priceville Tree Trail: The tree trail at Veteran’s Park will be open through Dec. 31.
Dec. 9: Falkville Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. begins at South Park.
Dec. 12: The annual Hartselle Christmas Parade at 7 p.m., starts at the high school football stadium and goes down Railroad Street to Main Street.
Christmas in the Park: Hartselle’s E.A.R.T.H. Park between Hickory and Barkley streets southwest will showcase decorated trees for Christmas in the Park. The trail will be open through Dec. 31.
Dec. 14: The Heart of Christmas: Journey Church in Eva will host The Heart of Christmas on Dec. 14, noon and 4 p.m. The event will bring the Christmas story to life, complete with angels, shepherds and live animals. After the show, children can go through Candyland and meet Santa, cartoon characters and superheroes. Admission is free. 3683 Eva Road, Eva. Dec. 7: Breakfast with Santa: Enjoy Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7, 8:30-11 a.m., at Hartselle High School. Along with a visit with Santa and a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, the event will include craft time with Hartselle High cheerleaders. Dec. 7: Christmas in the Park: Celebrate the holidays with Christmas in the Park at Priceville’s Veterans Park on Dec. 7. Visitors can meet Santa, write letters to the North Pole and prepare reindeer food. Free hot chocolate will be served. At 6 p.m., the lighting of the Priceville Christmas tree will take place.
Dec. 14: Meet & Greet with Santa: Get pictures made with Santa during a meet and greet at the Morgan Farmers Co-Op, 1931 U.S. 31, Hartselle, on Dec. 14, 7:30 a.m.-noon. Extra treats include a hot chocolate bar and Christmas coloring sheets.
Dec. 14: Holiday crafts and activities, hot chocolate, sweet treats and live music, including a handbell choir, await visitors to Christmas at the Depot on Dec. 14, 5-7 p.m. at the Hartselle Depot, 110 Railroad St. S.W. Admission is free.
The Littlest Christmas Tree Farm: Owned and operated by Russ Gordon, better known as Santa Russ, the Littlest Christmas Tree Farm in Hartselle allows visitors to cut their own trees. The farm at 2521 Ausley Bend Drive is open through Dec. 20. Expect to see Santa at the farm every Saturday in December. The farm opens at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on Sundays.
