“Mortimer’s Christmas Manger” By Karma Wilson Illustrated by Jane Chapman Mortimer is a mouse that lives in a creepy, cramped, cold hole. He finds a new home set up on a tabletop. Mortimer scurries up the tree in order to reach the tall table that holds this home. Mortimer finds people statues and a bed that is full of hay and very cozy and feels just right. Mortimer kicks the statues out and moves in. Every day Mortimer traces over the house looking for crumbs. And every evening when he returns, the statues are put back in place. One evening Mortimer hears a story of these people who had nowhere to go. He hears about a baby born and laying in a manger full of hay. Suddenly, Mortimer realizes that he took over that baby’s bed. Mortimer realizes how special the baby is. And so, Mortimer decides to find a new home and to give the cozy bed back to the baby.

This sweet children’s book is perfect to read as a family at Christmastime. No one is too small or too big to hear this special story. Stop by the library to check it out.
