Crestline Elementary’s GreenPower team is ready to hit the track. The team, led by coach Emily Stipe, includes students Harper Daves, Anna Reese Kersey, Livingston Stipe, Colton Cantrell and Briar Boyles. Together, they are diving into the world of electric vehicle design and racing. GreenPower USA aims to foster STEM learning by challenging students to design, build and race electric-powered cars. For Crestline’s team, the experience is more than educational- it’s a chance to bond and have fun. “My favorite part is working together to create something incredible,” Daves said. Anna Reese Kersey agrees, adding, “I love being part of a team.” The students have already completed their first test drive and are excited about upcoming competitions. After school, the team meets at a workshop equipped with tools and space to bring their design to life.
Currently, third graders take on the role of mechanics, while fourth graders serve as drivers. Safety is a top priority, with drivers wearing gloves, overalls and helmets during practice and races. Students said building a racecar has been a thrilling experience. “We never thought we could accomplish something this big,” they shared. With their car nearing completion, the Crestline GreenPower team is optimistic about a successful competition season.
