Hartselle police chief to retire next year
In a press release Monday, Hartselle police Chief Justin Barley announced that he will retire on Feb. 1, 2025.
“Serving as your Police Chief over the past six years has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Barley wrote in the release.
“It has been my privilege to serve with some of the finest officers — men and women whose courage, dedication, and love for Hartselle have made everything we have achieved possible. Together, we have accomplished much, and none of it would have been possible without the collective commitment of our department to this incredible community.”
Barley also thanked the Mayor Randy Garrison and the city council and said he was grateful to God and to his family, as well as his fellow city officials and community partners, who have been “instrumental in our shared success.”
“Looking ahead, I am filled with confidence and optimism for Hartselle and our police department. The leadership within the department is strong, and I know their dedication to excellence will continue to serve this community well,” Barley continued. “Reflecting on my career, I feel truly blessed, and my time as your Chief will always remain the pinnacle of my professional life. My greatest hope is that I have served you well and made a meaningful difference. I leave knowing I have given my best, and I am proud to have been part of this journey with you all.”
He said it’s time for him to “begin a new chapter” after 27 years in law enforcement.
