Tigers pick up first win in 52-48 victory at Pell City

The Hartselle Tigers picked up their first win of the season in a 52-48 win on the road at Pell City. The win was the first for new Hartselle head coach Josh Golden.
The Tigers started off slow, falling behind 12-2 and then 14-4 late in the first quarter. They cut the lead to 14-6 heading into the second quarter. Hartselle would turn things around in the second quarter by outscoring Pell City 13-10 to make the score 24-19 at halftime.
Pell City led 28-23 early in the third quarter before the Tigers went on an 8-0 run to take a 31-30 lead midway through the third. Pell City would retake the lead, 38-36 heading into the final quarter.
Hartselle opened the fourth with a 5-0 run to take a 41-38 lead early in the final quarter. Pell City then retook the lead, 45-42, with a 7-1 run midway through the fourth quarter. The Tigers responded with a 10-3 run to close out the game to win 52-48.
“It was a really resilient effort to get the win,” Golden said. “We got down 12-2 and then responded well. I thought we did a much better job on the glass in the second half. It was good to win on a night where shots were not falling from the outside. It was their home opener and alumni night with a packed house. I thought our guys handled it well.” Ty Odom led Hartselle with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals. Reed Springer added 11 points. Seven rebounds and three steals. Aiden Pointer had eight points, four rebounds, two steals and a team-high eight deflections.
JJ Hamby led Pell City with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Austin 70, Hartselle 56The Austin Black Bears jumped out to a 25-10 first quarter lead and cruised to a 70-56 win over Hartselle this past Tuesday. The Black Bears led 44-23 at the half and 63-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers showed some life in the fourth quarter as they outscored Austin 17-7 to make the final score 70-56.
Odom finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead Hartselle. Gray Bennich had 11 points.
Caiden Ricks had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Austin.
