Halbrooks joins Morgan school board

A new member was welcomed to the Morgan County Board of Education last week.

Geoff Halbrooks took the oath of office at the Morgan County Schools central office on Nov. 18.

Halbrooks secured the District 5 seat after defeating longtime incumbent Jimmy Dobbs in the March 5 Republican primary, earning 74.93% of the vote. With no Democratic challengers on the ballot, Halbrooks won unopposed in the general election earlier this month.

District 5 includes Priceville schools and the area once served by Sparkman Elementary School, which closed in 2023 after 87 years.

Halbrooks, who has been the funeral director at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle for 42 years will receive an annual salary of $9,000. His first meeting was Nov. 21.

He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 42 years and are proud parents and grandparents. Together, they enjoy farming, supporting their grandchildren and being active community members.
