Doug Moss
Hartselle Funeral service for Doug Moss, 81, was held on November 24, 2024, at First Methodist Church with Bro. Doug Wells, Bro. Mike Pope, Bro. Jimmy Legg, Glenn Thompson and Bro. Barry Dunn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Herring Cemetery. Mr. Moss passed away on November 20, 2024, at NHC Healthcare. He was born December 23, 1942, in Morgan County, to John Edgar Moss and Edna Earl Slate Moss. He was a faithful member of Hartselle First Methodist Church and a member of the choir and the King James Version Quartet. He was also a member of Regents Quartet for many years and sang with the Michael Dean group, “Memphis.” He was the owner and operator of Moss Audio and installed sound systems in churches, schools and auditoriums all over the Southeast. He provided the sound for the Old Time Fiddler’s Convention for many years. Doug served as chairman for the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Hartselle Rotary Club. He graduated from Morgan County High School where he was in the Morgan County High marching band. He was also a member of the Auburn University marching band and graduated from Auburn in 1966 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed by NASA as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Angie Thomason Moss; a brother, Jimmy Day; and a granddaughter, Olivia Alred. Survivors include his wife, Tammy Garnett Moss; three sons, John Lane Moss, Barry Scott Moss and Jonathan Alred (Emily); a daughter, Danna Owen (Joseph); four grandchildren, Madalynn Grace Owen, Katie Beth Owen, Henry Alred and Winston Alred. Pallbearers were Tom Scott, Mike Tucker, David Langston, Johnnie Howell, Jimmy Reeder, Glenn Thompson, Mike Root and Alan King. Members of the First Methodist Church Choir were honorary pallbearers. His family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of NHC Moulton for their wonderful, loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at First Methodist Church.
