Morgan County employees are getting a bonus of $1,000 each for work well done, an official said Wednesday.
The Morgan County Commission approved the budgeted spending during their meeting Wednesday at the Morgan County Courthouse. Commission Chairman Ray Long said the commission decided to budget the one-time payments during budget hearings earlier this year. The cost of the raise is approximately $460,000.
“Prices are going up and we appreciate the employees staying with us,” he said.
“This is the first time we have been in financial shape to do this. Last year we gave them $200 each. We are doing this while we are in good shape because our employees are one of our greatest assets.”
The county’s 10 elected officials are not eligible to receive the raise, he said.
Newly elected District 3 Commissioner Matthew Frost, sworn in Wednesday, said he voted for the raise because “they deserve it” and because the money was there to do it.
