Crestline Elementary students were the winners of the People’s Choice award at Morgan County’s Scarecrows in the Park contest in Priceville. Scarecrows were judged by the Trash Panda’s mascot, Sprocket and the winner was chosen on social media.
Crestline’s winning scarecrows included “Baller Betty” by Livingston Stipe and Scout Trussell, “Tua Many Concussions” by Colton Cantrell and Isaiah Rigoni, “Ninja in Training” by Aiden Lammers and “Go Tigers” by Anna Claire Ferguson. The Junior League of Morgan County provided guidelines and supplies, but creating and designing the scarecrows was completely left to the students’ imaginations.
The planning stage began with brainstorming scarecrow themes and ideas. When students began creating scarecrows, they had to become creative using materials available in the classroom like plastic plates, craft sticks and pipe cleaners. The Crestline gifted classes had so much fun creating the scarecrows.
Stipe said her favorite part of constructing a scarecrow was using her imagina-tion and visiting the masterpiece at Veterans Park. Scout enjoyed designing her scarecrow and braiding “Baller Betty’s” hair.
