Danville area pastor marking 50 years in ministry
Shady Grove Bap tist Church pastor Bro. Tom Camp bell is marking 50 years of being in ministry. When asked about his most significant accomplishment in 50 years of ministry, he said the question caused some serious soul searching. This is Campbell’s story: To begin, let me affirm that none of us are capable of accomplishing anything of Spiritual significance. It is God working through us. We are at best, clay pots filled with the treasure of God’s presence, that the glory and credit is His and not ours. Now, back to the question. I don’t think I have accomplished anything. On the contrary I have been given everything. I am eternally grateful for God’s gift of having been raised in a close knit, biological family, a precious wife who has been willing to share her husband with an entire congregation, two great sons, who have a living relationship with God, two daughters and eight super grandchildren, who are all involved in church.
Then there is our immediate spiritual family. Although, I still retain close ties from the four previous congregations, serving here at Shady Grove Baptist Church as their pastor has been the honor of a lifetime. I have been privileged to have sat on the floor with at least one and a half generations of children, doing children’s church, watching them grow into faith and become successful citizens. I have been granted the trust of comforting those who suffer and sharing the joys of weddings and births. As I have aged, God has opened doors to be a part of constructing the Cross of North Alabama and the ability to help many who have needs. The greatest gift (outside of the marvelous grace and mercy of God) is to have learned the truth that God can be trusted.
Thank you so very much, Bro. Campbell for sharing your feelings about your 50 years of ministry with our readers.
