Who’s in control?
We all face temp tations in life.
As children of God, it’s crucial for us to learn how to overcome them so we don’t damage our relationship with Him. James 1:13-16 teaches us that it’s our own desires that pull us away from God.
These desires lead to sin, and when sin is allowed to grow unchecked, it ultimately leads to death. But James 1 also offers a solution to this struggle. Though simple in concept, it can be challenging to apply: we are called to lay aside all filthiness and wickedness (James 1:21), which temptations often lead us toward. By studying and liv ing according to God’s Word, we can understand what He considers wicked and, in turn, overcome our temptations. As James 1:22 reminds us, we must be doers of the Word, not just hearers. Live out the faith you profess. Choose God over temptation. If you claim to be a child of God, live like one. Who’s in control of your life-your temptations or your God?
