Patti was born at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Virginia, a blessing she always treasured. After her father retired from the Army, the family moved to Alabama. Patti shared a deep love for Auburn University with her father and followed in his footsteps, earning a BS in Mathematics from Auburn in 1973 and an MA from the University of North Alabama in 1974. Patti taught at Bob Jones High School for three years and at Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA, for 2.5 years. In 1975, Patti married Reed, beginning a lifetime of over 49 years together. They were blessed with two children, Ike and Jennie-Marie. Patti began teaching at Decatur High School in 1984 and later sponsored Student Council, initiating several DHS traditions. She retired in 2015 after 37 years of teaching. Patti was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Decatur for 40 years and a founding member of Decatur Methodist Church in 2022. Preceding her in death were her parents, Emmett and Irene Parrish, and her brother, Mike.
Survivors include her husband, Reed Stutts; son, Ike Stutts (Caroline) of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter, Jennie-Marie McMasters (Carlton) of Decatur; granddaughters, Julianna Stutts, Emma Hensley McMasters, Mary-Reed McMasters, Lily McMasters, Elizabeth Stutts, and Margaret McMasters; and grandson, Mason Stutts.
Funeral will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Decatur Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Beau Jones, John Joseph, Hal Sanders, John Sturges, Jack Underwood, Christopher Vought, and Charlie Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Decatur Methodist Church or the Patti Stutts Leadership Scholarship at United Community Bank.
