The goodness of God
Last week, we explored the well-known story of David and Goliath to uncover lessons that can help us face life’s challenges. This week, we turn to another significant battle-the one in Genesis 3, where Adam and Eve encounter the serpent.
In this story, Adam and Eve disobey God by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree He had commanded them not to touch. The serpent deceived Eve, convincing her that God’s words were not true, and she gave in to temptation, followed shortly by Adam. This act of disobedience led to their banishment from the Garden of Eden and brought death into the world. The serpent was cursed to crawl on the ground and eat dust for eternity.
Many times, the battles we face today echo this same pattern, where our relationship with God becomes fractured. There are a few key lessons we can learn from this story to help us avoid similar mistakes. First, we see that God is always right. From the beginning, He has given us clear boundaries, and when we choose to listen to the world instead of Him, we inevitably face the conse quences of our actions. This reminds us that our choices have real consequences-God has reasons for guiding us the way He does. He isn’t restricting us; He’s protecting us.
Finally, even after Adam and Eve’s disobedience, we see God’s compassion. Before sending them out into the harsh world beyond the Garden, He makes clothes for them. This act shows that even when we fall short, God still cares for us. He offers us protection, and we only need to turn back to Him and trust in His goodness. God is good, even when we are not.
