Steam shovel, circa 1911. A steam shovel was used to cut the grade out of the old railway to make the new line. This powerful machine is loading excavated soil and rock to special rail cars that can drop one side and dump in another location. This area is possibly north of Hartselle, near where the city cemetery is today. Courtesy of Hartselle Historical Society.
