Love one another
John is often called the disciple whom Jesus loved, and it was this love that sustained him and the other disciples. This same love is the foundation for how we are called to love others.
In 1 John 4:7-8, we learn that God is love, and without love, we cannot truly know Him.
Understanding Jesus’ love is essential in order to demonstrate it by loving others. Verse 9 reveals that through this love, we find eternal life. Jesus, in His love for us, brings us life.
Verses 10-11 further explain that this love is unlike what the world teaches. Jesus loved us before we loved Him, and He sacrificed Himself for us, even knowing some would reject Him. To be a disciple means knowing the love of Jesus, and to make disciples means loving others as He has loved us. John teaches us that this love has the power to expand God’s kingdom.
Are you willing to love others enough to help make disciples?
