A Hartselle man accused of stealing a 2009 Honda CRV in July was arrested Tuesday, according to a Decatur police detective’s affidavit.
Jerome Leshon Murphy, 38, is charged with first-degree theft and remained in the Morgan County Jail on Tuesday afternoon in lieu of a $30,000 bond, jail records show.
A Decatur resident reported the alleged theft to police in July, and an arrest warrant for Murphy was issued after police gathered evidence, according to the affidavit. Court records show Murphy’s bond is elevated due to prior felony convictions.
In addition to prior drug offenses, Murphy was charged with first-degree burglary in 2019, according to court
records. He pleaded to a lesser charge of third-degree burglary and was sentenced in 2021 to time served in jail, at 492 days, and three years of supervised probation.
