Bobby Dwain McAbee
Athens Bobby Dwain McAbee, 84, of Athens, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024. Born on January 31, 1940, Bobby lived a life marked by service, skill and creativity.
Bobby’s dedication to service began at an early age when he joined the Army at just 14, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. His skills extended far beyond the military. He was a jack of all trades and a master of many, known for his talents as a carpenter, electrician, welder, master builder, chef, teacher and artist.
His legacy is one of versatility and dedication, and he will be remembered for his extraordinary ability to turn his hand to anything with remarkable expertise. Bobby’s life touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Lou McAbee; daughter, Pamela McAbee-Faust; brothers, Ed, Mickey, Bill, and Sonny McAbee; sisters, Dorothy Rochelle, Angus Posey, Peggy Yeager; and his parents, Henry and Lee Ora McAbee.
Bobby is survived by his granddaughter, Kara McAbee Thornton (Lance); greatgranddaughter, Willow Mac Thornton; his brother, Jackie McAbee; sisters, Glenda Knighten, Pat Robertson, and Debbie Ledlow; and sister-in-law, Gladys Brown A visitation was held at Peck Funeral Home of Hartselle from 4:00 -6:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024. A Funeral Service was held in the Peck Funeral Home Chapel following at 6:00 PM. Burial was be in the Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives of Athens, in Bobby McAbee’s honor.
