Public hearing set for Aug. 6 to discuss Hartselle’s updated Comprehensive Plan
Hartselle is taking a significant step toward shaping its future with an upcoming public hearing on Aug. 6. The event, scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall, will be the culmination of a year of planning to adopt an updated Comprehensive Plan for the city.
The Comprehensive Plan update, a collaborative effort led by the North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments (NARCOG), marks a crucial phase in Hartselle’s long-term planning. This process began with an open house in March, where res-idents provided feedback that has been instrumental in crafting the preliminary draft of the Hartselle Comprehensive Plan, according to Joey Hester with NARCOG. Hester said this draft includes the vision, goals, future land use map and several other strategic maps designed to guide Hartselle’s growth.
Following the initial feedback, NARCOG refined the draft into a final draft in preparation for the adoption process. After the Planning Commission reviews and adopts the Comprehensive Plan, it will be forwarded to the City Council for final approval. The City Council will also hold a public hearing before finalizing the plan, Hester said. Hester said residents are strongly encouraged to attend the Aug. 6 hearing to review the proposed vision and goals for Hartselle’s future. “Their ‘buy in’ to the plan along with that of local leadership and the elected officials will be crucial in successfully implementing the comprehensive plan,” Hester said. City officials and NARCOG representatives will be present at the hearing to answer questions and provide additional details about the planning efforts.
