Board of Education approves agenda items ahead of new school year
The Board of Education met July 16 to approve several critical items for the 202425 school year. The meeting included the approval of the new Board meeting schedule and various Child Nutrition Program bids, which were awarded to Pepsi Co. for beverages, OK Produce for produce, Osborne Grocers for supplemental groceries, Hershy’s Ice Cream for ice cream, SFSPac for chemicals and Pizza Hut for fresh baked pizza delivery.
Change orders for Crestline Elementary School were also approved, including the lowering of whiteboards in the Pre-K wing to meet OSR requirements, credits for casework adjustments, changes to pass-through windows in the main lobby and Pre-K lobby and the installation of fencing and sidewalks along the car line and playgrounds.
Additionally, the board approved Hartselle Junior High School’s request to declare an HP Printer, 1992 Golf Cart, a Dell monitor, and a Laserjet Printer as surplus property for disposal. The final reading to revise Board Policy 3.18, which pertains to Child Nutrition Procedures, was approved. Agreements between the City of Hartselle and Hartselle City Schools for School Resource Officers (SRO) and School Protection Officers (SPO) were formalized. A bid and contract were awarded to Johns and Kirksey of Tusca-loosa, for the partial re-roofing of Hartselle High School, which includes replacing gutters and downspouts. Moreover, 11 additional outof-district students were approved for enrollment.
Personnel changes included the resignation of Hannah Rose Vines from her position as Spanish teacher at Hartselle High School, effective June 13. New employments were confirmed, with Leigh Ellen Atkins appointed as a bus aide, Stephanie Baggs as an English teacher at Hartselle High School, and several instructional aides-Emma Bennich, Landon Garner, Rebecca Hazel and Alisa Parker- assigned to various schools. Zachary Grizzard was appointed as a Special Education teacher at Hartselle Junior High School, and Rachel Lovell was hired as a Speech Language Pathologist. Elementary teachers in Hartselle City Schools will receive compensation for conducting Kindergarten Camp, funded by the local school.
Contracts were awarded to Shanna Coan, Megan Dillard and Sarah Ellen Anders for Advanced TEAMS positions at Hartselle High School, effective July 1 through June 30, 2027. In athletics, Josh Golden will be compensated for his work at the 2024 Youth Basketball Camp, and Glavine Segars will receive a supplement for the 2024 baseball season.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for July 30.
