Road tripping to Canal Fulton
As the summer sun beats down on our beloved Dixieland, my husband Trent and I are embarking on a refreshing adventure up north. We’re headed to Canal Fulton, Ohio, for my brother’s wedding-a journey that promises both the joy of family reunions and the excitement of welcoming a new family into ours.
The highlight of this trip will surely be seeing my sweet niece, Winnie, make her debut as a flower girl. There’s something incredibly heartwarming about watching the next generation take part in such cherished traditions. She looks like a princess in her dress and I’m not at biased.
Trent and I have rented a car for the occasion, ensuring we have the comfort and convenience needed for the 10-hour drive. I must admit, I’m the designated “passenger princess” for this trip.
T h a n k fu l ly, Trent doesn’t mind driving, and I certainly don’t mind sitting back and letting him deal with Cincinnati traffic. With a selection of audiobooks and podcasts ready to go, we’re set for an eclectic listening journey. Maybe if I’m sweet he will let me listen to a little Taylor Swift.
As we head north, I’m eagerly anticipating the cooler weather. The heat and humidity of our southern summer have made stepping outside feel like walking into a sauna. My glasses fog up instantly, and the air is so thick it feels like it could be bottled. The promise of a cooler, crisper climate is a welcome relief, and I look forward to breathing in air that’s light and refreshing. The high in Canal Fulton is sitting around 73 degrees as I write this column quite a stark difference from Hartselle’s 84.
But beyond the weather and the scenic drive, the heart of this trip is about family. There’s a unique joy in spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, and creating new memories together. My brother’s wedding is not just a celebration of love but also a beautiful reminder of the bonds that hold us all together.
Welcoming another family into ours is a profound experience. It’s a time to open our hearts, embrace new relationships, and expand our circle of love and support. I look forward to getting to know our new family members, sharing their stories and building connections that will grow and strengthen through the years.
So, as Trent and I set out on this journey, I’m filled with a sense of excitement and gratitude. This road trip is more than just a drive; it’s a passage to a momentous occasion and a celebration of the ties that bind us. Here’s to love, family, and the joy of new beginnings.
