Morgan teen named Alabama 4H Ambassador
Colton Naylor has been selected to represent the Morgan County 4H program as an Alabama State Ambassador. This prestigious appointment adds to the Naylor family’s legacy, with Naylor following in the footsteps of his older brothers, Corey Naylor and Cooper Naylor, who were also 4H State Ambassadors.
Naylor said watching his older brothers through 4-H inspired him to pursue
“Seeing them grow as leaders through being Ambassadors inspired me to want to become a better leader,” he said. “I have learned a lot about leadership, citizenship, communication, hard work and social skills.
“I feel through 4-H I have become a better person and am more willing to learn and take constructive criticism and advice.”
Colton’s journey with 4H has been marked by significant contributions and personal growth. He and his brother Cooper Naylor initially transferred from Lawrence County 4H, where they had achieved considerable success. Colton quickly became an integral part of Morgan County 4H, taking on the role of Vice President of the Youth Council.
Juliana Markham, 4-H Youth Development Coordinator of the Morgan County Cooperative Extension System, praised Colton’s relentless dedication and willingness to step out of his comfort zone.
“Colton is never one to be sitting idly when there is a task to be done. He has always been willing to lend a helping hand and try something new,” Markham said. “His ability to forge relationships quickly and share fun stories makes him a standout in our community.”
Naylor’s commitment was particularly evident during the application process for the State Ambassador role. Demonstrating proactive initiative, he requested a recommendation letter from Markham even before the applications opened. Within 15 minutes of the online application portal going live, he had completed and submitted his application. His diligence continued through to the second round, where he faced an interview requiring a presentation on the Thrive Model.
“He really wanted to do a good job on his presentation,” Markham added. “Colton spent an hour in my office discussing the Thrive Model, his 4H experiences, what sparked his passion for 4H and his future goals.”
Naylor’s success is also a testament to the foundational support he received from Melinda Smith and Marsha Terry at Lawrence County 4H, Markham said, adding she counts herself lucky to be the one able to help mold him for the next few years that he will be in Morgan County.
For Morgan County 4H, having Colton as a State Ambassador means significant local representation at the state level. Donning the green blazer, Colton will represent the county at various events, serving as a role model and inspiration to younger 4H members.
“He will be a wonderful role model and example of excellence to the younger 4h’ers, to show them the possibility if what they can be if they continue to strive to be the best,” Markham said.
“It is a great honor to represent Morgan County and help fellow 4h’ers to ‘Make the best better,” Naylor added.
