Reflecting on Father’s Day: Steps to becoming
With Father’s Day hav ing just passed, I found myself reflecting on the kind of man I am and the kind of man I aspire to be as a child of God. How can I become a better man of God? The Bible is filled with commandments, stories, and examples guiding us on how to live our lives. Specific verses, such as Psalm 37:23-24, offer insight into questions like mine. Let’s explore how a Godly man develops. The Bible says: “The steps of a [good] man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds [him with] His hand.” From these verses, we learn that everything begins with preparation. The steps of a good man are “ordered” by God, meaning we prepare ourselves or establish our paths according to His Word. We become ready to be Godly each day because our steps are guided by Him.
Next, we see that when we live according to His commandments, it “delights” God. Our Creator takes joy in our righteous living. Knowing that the Creator of the world is pleased with us provides powerful motivation to live rightly.
Finally, we see that even when we make mistakes, if we return to His Word to address our errors, He will keep us safe (“He upholds us”). What a reassuring promise! Our God helps us take the right steps, even when we stray.
As we reflect on Father’s Day and the qualities of Godly men, let’s ensure our steps are those of a good man, guided and upheld by God.
