Living by faith
Living by faith in Jesus above, trusting and confiding in His great love. These words mark the beginning of one of the most frequently sung worship songs in churches today, aptly named “Living by Faith.” This song encapsulates how Christians are called to live. It’s a challenging path, relying on belief without always knowing what lies ahead.
Yet, this faith also provides a steadfast assurance of truth. Despite its difficulty, there are valuable lessons to be learned about living by faith.
Matthew 14 tells the story of Peter walking on water to meet Jesus. This narrative highlights key aspects of faith. First, faith empowers a child of God to face the unknown. Peter stepped out onto the water, uncertain of what would happen, but confident as long as Jesus was there. That is true faith.
Second, the story illustrates that God’s arms are always there to lift us up when we fal ter. When Peter began to sink, Jesus remarked on his lack of faith. Instead of succumbing to the waves, Peter reached out to Jesus, whose strength and pres ence saved him.
Lastly, the story teaches us how to live by faith daily. Peter walked on water as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. The moment he focused on the storm instead, he began to sink. His salvation came when he refocused on Jesus, who lifted him up. This demonstrates that living by faith requires keeping our eyes on Jesus every day. Our faith and attention must be fixed on Him continuously.
How are you living? By faith? Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and live by faith each day.
