“Salt to the Sea”

By Ruta Sepetys

This is a fictional account of a true event that most people have never heard about.  In the winter of 1945, people from several war-torn nations are running for their lives. They hope to board a refugee ship called Wilhelm Gustloff in the Polish harbor town of Gotenhafen.  Soviet troops are closing in from every side and the journey is dangerous. This story focuses on a particular group of people from different countries that have come together by chance but stay together by choice.  A nurse, a deserter, a young pregnant woman and a wandering little boy found in the woods form a tight bond in the face of adversity. They keep moving toward the ship in hopes that it will bring them to their freedom. When they feel like they can finally rest – tragedy strikes again.  This book tells the tale of the largest death toll in maritime history that has been all but forgotten.

“The Fine Print”

By Lauren Asher

Reading level: Adult

Rowan Kane is the youngest of three brothers set to inherit the world famous “Dreamland” theme parks and company. Since he was little, all Rowan wanted was to permanently stay at “Dreamland.” Now that his grandfather has passed, he is in the prime position to take over running the parks. However, the parks are declining in quality. This is what spurs his decision to promote one of the company’s most promising employees after she drunkenly sends him an email. She has a lot of ideas on how to fix the parks. This becomes the biggest decision of his life.

Zahra Gulian is one of the many employees of “Dreamland.” She sees that the company and the theme parks have started to decline without Brady, Rowan’s grandfather. With many ideas on how to fix the problem, Zahra starts drafting proposals for change. Drunkenly, she sends one proposal heavily criticizing the company’s newest and most expensive ride to Rowan directly. Little did she know this would get her a promotion and maybe more.

If you love contemporary romance and The Walt Disney Company, this is the book for you. The setting of the book is heavily based upon the Walt Disney Company; although, it has the twist of the three owners being eligible bachelors. You can find this book on Hoopla as an audiobook.
