J.C. “Carley” Atkins
Hartselle J.C. “Carley” Atkins, 86, of Hartselle, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Summerford Nursing Home. Born on November 21, 1937, in Morgan County to Robert Ernest Atkins and Betty Mary Elizabeth Williams Atkins, Carley served in the Alabama National Guard and worked as an Aluminum Buyer for Fruehauf and as a home builder in Decatur and the surrounding areas. He was happiest on his farm and cherished his faith, having been saved at a Billy Graham Crusade and baptized by Bro. Harold Coomer.
He is survived by his son, Patrick Atkins (Kim); his daughter, Dawn Lowe (Dustin); his sisters, Dianna Gurley and Carol Parsons; his two grandchildren, Jaxon and Ashton Atkins; and his great-grandchild, Corella Atkins.
Carley was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Atkins, and his siblings, Charles W. Atkins, J.W. Atkins, Lamar Atkins, Cora Ella Aldridge, Dolly Shelton, and Bobbie Jennings.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Columbia Cottage of Hartselle, the staff of Decatur Morgan Hospital, Summerford Nursing Home, and Hospice of North Alabama for their exceptional care.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Somerville Church of God, officiated by Bro. Michael Gunter and Bro. Pearl Jenkins. Burial followed in Somerville Church of God Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Aldridge, Billy Owens, Mark Owens, Philip Gurley, Barry Cooper and Don Marsh.
