Tigers drop two on road

The Hartselle Tigers basketball team had a rough week, suffering two road losses at Muscle Shoals and Mountain Brook this past week.

Muscle Shoals 61, Hartselle 51
Hartselle traveled to Muscle Shoals for a matchup with the Trojans last week. The Tigers jumped out to a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. Unfortunately, Hartselle couldn’t maintain their momentum, with Muscle Shoals taking a 24-21 lead at the half. The Trojans extended their lead to 40-31 after three quarters.

Rylan Smothers led Hartselle with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ty Odom added eight points, while Markus Tapscott had seven points and four rebounds. Kohl Key and Hudson Buckelew each had five points. Key also had four assists.

Mountain Brook 59, Hartselle 34
The Tigers fell behind early, trailing 27-8, and couldn’t recover in their 59-34 loss at Mountain Brook. The Spartans led 36-15 at halftime and 52-26 after three quarters.

Tapscott led Hartselle with a career-high 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Smothers added six points and three rebounds. Six players each had two points.
