Tigers get three wins at Marx Optical Thanksgiving Tournament

The Hartselle Tigers bounced back from a difficult week with three victories at the Marx Optical Thanksgiving Tournament at Priceville this past week. The Tigers picked up wins over John Carroll, Madison County and Priceville to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Hartselle 51, John Carroll 47

The Tigers battled with a scrappy John Carroll team and came away with a 51-47 win to open the Marx Optical Thanksgiving Tournament. The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter before John Carroll took a 29-27 lead into halftime. Ty Odom’s 60-foot three-pointer gave Hartselle a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Tigers held off a later John Carroll charge to come away with the win.

Rylan Smothers led Hartselle with 17 points and nine rebounds. Odom added 14 points and three assists, while Kohl Key and Brayden Thomas each added six points.

Hartselle 81, Madison County 29

The Tigers used a 37-point second quarter to cruise to a 53-20 halftime lead. They continued to pull away by outscoring Madison County 28-9 in the second half of their 81-29 win. 10 Hartselle players scored in the victory.

Odom had 18 points and three steals to lead three Tigers’ in double digits. Key added 15 points and four assists, while Smothers had 13 points and six rebounds. Dawson Seal scored eight points and Markus Tapscott had seven points and six rebounds in his first game of the season.

Hartselle 48, Priceville 32

Hartselle led 7-3 after the first and 21-14 at the half on their way to a 48-32 win over Priceville in the Marx Optical Thanksgiving Tournament finale.

Smothers had a double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds, to lead Hartselle. Tapscott added 12 points and six rebounds, while Odom had 11 points and four rebounds. Key had six points, six rebounds and four assists.
