Lady Tigers dominate in two wins to open 2023-24 season

The Hartselle Lady Tigers (2-0) ventured south to Gulf Shores to open the 2023-24 season in the Gulf Shores Tip-Off. They opened the season against Blount before taking on Spanish Fort on Saturday.

“I thought it was a good start for us,” Hartselle head coach Amber Deline said. “The girls came out with good energy and excitement. We did some things well but also found areas to improve.”

Hartselle 71, Blount 52

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 23-13 lead after the opening quarter and extended their lead to 41-19 heading into halftime. They continued to pull away in the third quarter as they outscored Blount 23-19 to lead 64-38 heading into the final quarter. Blount outscored the Lady Tigers 14-7 in the fourth quarter to make the final score 71-52.

Freshman Hannah Burks led Hartselle with 23 points. Gracie Hill added 12 points, while Ella Springer had 11 points. Mary Francis Itsede led the team with 12 rebounds.

Hartselle 63, Spanish Fort 27

The Lady Tigers opened the game by outscoring Spanish Fort 19-4 in the first quarter. They extended the lead to 35-14 heading into halftime. Hartselle pushed the lead to 55-21 heading into the final quarter, where they outscored the Lady Toros 8-6 to close out the 36-point victory.

Hill led Hartselle with 18 points, while Anna Hampton Burroughs added 14. Burks had 10 points.

Hartselle’s next game will be Saturday against Springville at Wallace State Community College at 9 a.m.
