Police academy open for registration

The Hartselle Police Department will soon offer a two-day Citizens Police Academy for those interested in learning about local law enforcement.  

The academy will be held at the Hartselle Public Safety Building, located at 200 N. Sparkman St. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  The academy was founded in 2006. 

To be eligible, participants must be at least 19 years old, a resident of Hartselle or the surrounding area and be able to pass a background check. Register by emailing lfox@hartselle.org or calling (256) 751-4924.  

Complete applications can also be mailed to the police department at 150 Chestnut St. NW, Hartselle.

Classes will be taught on several departments within HPD including administration, criminal investigations, narcotics, patrol, traffic stops, school resource and protection and firearms.  

After completing the academy, participants are eligible to be a part of the Hartselle Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.  

The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association exists to assist the Hartselle Police Department with its overall mission. The Alumni Association supports the Police Department by volunteering and fostering the belief that the preservation of public welfare is the duty of every citizen. As a citizen group, the Alumni Association offers a helping hand to the Hartselle Community in an effort to improve the quality of life by developing and coordinating various projects that are meaningful and rewarding experiences for our community. The Hartselle Police Department provides the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association with education in law enforcement and community concerns.
