    Mary Juanita Hargrove
    Hartselle

    Mrs. Mary Hargrove passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at her
    residence.  She was born July 3, 1936, in Limestone County, to Horace
    Baxter Lowery and Emma Lee Turner Lowery.
    Mrs. Hargrove was a homemaker for her family, whom she loved dearly. She
    enjoyed her flowers, cooking and karaoke. Preceding her in death were her
    husband, Wiley Leslie Hargrove, Jr. and her parents.
    No services are scheduled at this time.
    Survivors include sons Timothy Hargrove and Terry Hargrove; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  

     

     

    Major Dennis P. Bryant  

    NORTHPORT 

    Funeral service for Major Dennis P. Bryant, 79, will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. 

    Mr. Bryant passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, surrounded by those he loved. He was born April 2, 1944, in Morgan County to Henry F. Bryant and Bertha True Venable Bryant, who preceded him in death. 

    He was a member of the graduating class of 1962 from Sheffield High School. He received his BS degree from the University of North Alabama in 1967 and his Masters degree from UNA in 1968. He received his AA and PhD from the University of Alabama. 

    While at UNA, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Burns and they were happily married for 57 years. 

    Mr. Bryant was very proud of his military service to his country. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division and the 81st Radio Research Division. He was a member of the Army Security Agency. After leaving full time service, he remained in the United States Army Reserves for 18 years. After which, Mr. Bryant worked for 30 years in education and owned several businesses. His longest business affiliation was FinInn Tropical Fish. He was a sixth grade teacher at Powell Elementary School in Florence, Alabama, then was an Assistant Principal at Westlawn Middle School and Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a Principal of Courtland Elementary School in Courtland, Alabama and as Principal of Eastwood Middle School in Tuscaloosa for 18 years. 

    Mr. Bryant was a man who loved life and learning. He was an avid reader and researcher. He had numerous hobbies and collections, all of which made him an expert in cataloguing. He was a world traveler and enjoyed the history behind his travels. He needed little sleep and could hardly wait to see what joy each day would bring. 

    He loved his family, especially his daughter, Kimberly and was happiest when he was with family. 

    Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Burns Bryant; daughter, Kimberly Bryant; son-in-law, Marc Gelderblom; sisters, Patricia Bryant Hartley and Angela Bryant Hendrix. 

    Pallbearers will be family and friends. 

     

    Gloria “Wild Spirit” Wallace

    Somerville

    A Memorial Funeral service for Gloria “Wild Spirit” Wallace, 66, will be
    Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with
    Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. No
    visitation is scheduled.

    Ms. Wallace died on Monday, September 18, 2023 at her residence.   She was
    born August 24, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Robert Paul Wallace and Sara
    Francis Johnson Wallace.

    She was a homemaker, a beautiful, loving mother and a free spirit. She was
    preceded in death by her parents and a son: Justin Casey.

    Survivors include her Son – Billy Casey of Somerville, AL, and two sisters,
    Sandra Prisock and Linda Day.
     

     

    Donald N. Curbow

    Funeral service with Military Honors for Donald N. Curbow, 88, will be Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home.   

    Mr. Curbow died on Monday, September 11, 2023.  He was born August 24, 1935, in Morgan County, to Auby Donald Curbow and Martha Ailene Crow Curbow.   

    Mr. Curbow retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Tunsel Road Baptist Church. He also was a “Boot Scooter” at Decatur General for many years.  

    Preceding him in death were his wife Willene Howard Crow Curbow, his parents, sister, Doris Gail Terry and a brother, Willis A. Curbow.  

      

    Survivors include sons Dwight Crow, Sr. (Susan) and David Crow (Linda); nieces Chris Curbow and Kim Whited (Danny); grand-niece Kristen Whited; grandchildrenTara Lubahn (Kirk), Dwight Crow, Jr (Kristi), Kellen Crow, Keenan Crow (Beth); Great Grandchildren Jonathan Crow, Alexandria Crow, Ainsley Crow, Jenna Lubahn and Laura Lubahn.  

    Pallbearers will be friends from the Shriners.       

    Honorary Pallbearers will be Grandsons Dwight Crow, Jr., Kellen Crow, Keenan Crow, Kirk Lubahn, Johnathan Crow, Paul Baldy and Evan Baldy.   

    The family welcomes flowers or you can choose to donate to the American Legion Post 15 of Decatur in memory of Mr. Curbow, 2607 U.S. Hwy. 31, Decatur, Alabama, 35603.     

     

     

    Thomas James Brannon  

    Danville 

    A Graveside Funeral service and Interment for Thomas James Brannon, 37, will be Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Center Cemetery in Danville with Peck Funeral Home directing.
    Mr. Brannon died on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.  He was born April 11, 1986, in Morgan County to Donald Lynn Brannon and Barbara Sue Burnett Brannon .  

    He was employed as a roofer for James Burnett Roofing, prior to his passing.  

    He was preceded in death by his brother, Joey Brannon, his grandparents, Orlan and Ruby Ann Burnett and Carson and Sue Brannon, an uncle, Rick Brannon, two aunts, Cathy McCarthy and Laura Burnett.  

    Survivors include his parents Donnie Brannon and Barbara Sue Burnett; brother Tyler Brannon (Britta); nieces and nephews Scarlett, Delilah and Declan Brannon; uncles James Burnett, Gary Brannon, Gregory Brannon and Tony Brannon; aunts Martha Palmer and Patricia Beaty 

    Pallbearers will be Tyler Brannon, Paul Beaty, Nick Owens, Alen Brannon, Carson Brannon and Lucian Torres. 

    Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Brannon, Daniel Edmondson, Austin Veal and Adam Torres. 

     

     

    Rachel Summerford Fowler  

    IRONDALE 

    Funeral service for Rachel Summerford Fowler, 92, will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Geoff Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Herring Cemetery.  

    Rachel Fowler passed away on September 20, 2023 at her residence. She was born October 13, 1930 in Morgan County, Alabama to Jim and Ella Summerford and later was raised by her mama, Ruby Summerford. She grew up in Morgan County with her five brothers and five sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Ruby Morris Summerford; brothers, Ralph Summerford, J.J. Summerford, Louyn Summerford, Hugh Summerford; sisters, Margaret Campbell, Stella Brown and Willie Monroe. 

    Rachel graduated from Falkville High School and then earned a degree from Auburn University. Rachel enjoyed many diverse careers while living in many different parts of the country. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood. She was an active member of PEO for over 60 years, was a Certified Master Gardener, and was always involved in her local community. 

    Rachel was married to Stewart Fowler for 41 years and she is survived by their three children, Hampton Fowler (Leona), Jim Fowler (Mary), and Amy Fowler Hall (Bryan); grandchildren, Corey Fowler, Rachel Fowler, Kelsey Hall, and Hampton Hall; one brother, Jack Summerford (Barbara); two sisters, Nina Johnson (Waymon) and Sandra Anglea (Jack); along with several nieces and nephews. 

    Pallbearers will be Jeremy Summerford, Jason Summerford, Wesley Anglea, John Monroe, Ernie Brown, Doug Summerford, Joel Johnson and Jimmy Anglea.

    An additional memorial service will take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Fair Haven, 1424 Montclair Road in Birmingham. 

     

     

    Dot-Summerford Summerford  

    FALKVILLE 

    Funeral Service for Dot-Summerford Frost Summerford, 81 of Falkville, will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Peck Funeral Home Chapel at with Bro. Dan Hopper and Bro. Donnie McPherson officiating and burial in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. 

    Mrs. Summerford was born June 29, 1942, in Morgan County, AL to Casper Alexander Frost and WillieB Dunlap. She passed away Friday, September 22, 2023. Dot-Summerford was a Member of Harmony Primitive Baptist Church. 

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Summerford; sister, Venita Clay; and brother-in-law, R.H. Summerford. 

    She was a Secretary for Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. Dot-Summerford was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor to everybody. 

    Survivors include her son, Chip Jerry H. (Sherry) Summerford; sister, Virginia (Zeb) Nelson; two grandchildren, Leigha (Quinton) Webster and Nina (Glen Born) Summerford; and several nieces and nephews. 

    Pallbearers will be Joshua Pruitt, Clay Martin, Glen Born, Quinton Webster, Ashley Hopper, and Wesley Stump. 

     

     

    Margaret Cook

    Danville

    Funeral service for Margaret Cook, 82, will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 at
    3:00 PM at First Baptist Church  with Bro. Clayton Speed, youth minister Trent Nolen, Trish Hughes officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
    Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday,
    September 24, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church

    Mrs. Cook died on Thursday, September 21, 2023.  She was born Tuesday,
    August 5, 1941, in Morgan County, to Ralph Charlie “RC” Dutton and Mildred
    Jane Cobb Dutton.

    She was employed in Mental Health Administration, for Summerford Nursing
    Home and The Lurleen B. Wallace Center, prior to her retirement. She was a
    Christian lady and was preceded in death by her husband, Guy M. Cook, Jr.,
    her parents, a daughter, Elaine Cook. and three great grandchildren.

    Survivors include sons Guy Cook, III and Mark Cook; daughter April Denson; sister Karen Wells; seven grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren.

    Anthony Wells, Chuck Keenum, Don Peoples, Chase Perreault, Cody Perreault
    and Jackson Terry will serve as Pallbearers.
     

     

    Mageline “Laverne” Free

    Falkville

    Funeral service for Mageline “Laverne” Free, 95, will be Monday, September
    25, 2023 at 7:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro Roger Hood
    officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

    Mrs. Free died on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at her residence.  She was
    born July 9, 1928, in Lawrence County,  to Elmer Clarence Brown and Ida
    Ozella Holloway Brown.

    She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great
    grandmother, who loved life in itself. She enjoyed playing cards with family
    and friends, playing Bingo with her friends that she loved so dearly. She
    HATED frogs more than anything in the world but had more Frog figurines than
    you could count.  She was a homemaker for her family and loved them all
    dearly.

    Preceding her in death were her husband: Truman Clyde Free, her parents,
    Clarence and Ozell Brown and a grandson, John David Bailey.

    Survivors include sons Kenneth D. Free (Carol), Phillip E. Free, Wendell Joe Free, Ronald L. Free (Jenny); Daughters Brenda Adamson, Shirley Posey (Warren), Connie F. Bailey (Tommy); 14 grandchildren; 28 Great Grandchildren and two on the way; four Great-Great Grandchildren.
     

     

     

    Kathleen Holladay Anders  

    Funeral services for Kathleen Holladay Anders will be Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Peck Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at McKendree Cemetery in the Massey Community. She passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at her residence in Hartselle at the age of 90. Ms. Anders was born August 17, 1933, to Marvin W. and Daisy Ellen Townsend Holladay in Morgan County, AL. She worked at Copeland in manufacturing prior to retiring. 

    She loved gardening, needle work, crocheting and was very popular for baking pies and her banana pudding. She was dearly loved by her family & friends and will be sorely missed. 

    She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Esmer Lee Anders, Sr; son, Esmer Lee Anders, Jr; and sister, Alice Marie (Holladay) Livingston. 

    She is survived by her three daughters: Tamie Prater of Hartselle, Olivia Miller (Greg) of Decatur and Paula Guthrie (Roy) Hartselle; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren   

    Pallbearers will be family and friends. 

     

    Charter Lee Nicholson, Sr

    Hartselle

    Masonic graveside service performed by the Officers of the Grand Lodge F. & A.M. of Alabama for Charter Lee Nicholson, Sr., 82, of Hartselle will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Mr. Nicholson, who was born February 20, 1941, in Walker County to Garvice Garrett Nicholson, Sr. and Evelyn Lucille Perkins Nicholson, died on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

    He was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ, a 1958 graduate of Morgan County High School and then received his B. S. Degree in Pre-Medicine from Auburn University. After graduating from Auburn, he enrolled at the U.A.B. School of Medicine in Birmingham and after a short time there, he returned to Hartselle to work in the family business, Nicholson Ford. He worked in all aspects of the business and eventually retired as the Assistant Manager of Eddie Preuitt Ford.

    Charter was a proud member of the Nunn-Oden Masonic Lodge in Hartselle and was elected and progressed through the Chairs of the State of Alabama Grand Lodge and was eventually elected the State Grand Master. He was also a member of the Shriners and the Scottish Rites. He always enjoyed anything about cars, and he enjoyed drag racing.

    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Nicholson; son Charter Nicholson Jr.; daughters Cambia Nicholson Bailey and Christal Nicholson Stovall (Phillip); brother Garvice Nicholson Jr. (Patty Sherrill Nicholson); sister Nicole “Nikki” Nicholson Raia; and Four Grandchildren, Charter Lynn Nicholson (Brittney), Briana Nicholson Blankenship (Jason), Kelsey Bailey Tryon (Ian) and Jacob Bailey (Carly.)
