6U Softball All-Stars bring home second pre-area championship

The Hartselle 6U All-Star team brought home another championship trophy after winning the All-American Your Sports Pre-Area # 2 in Monrovia this past weekend.

They defeated Decatur 17-13 to open the tournament on Thursday. They faced off with Blount County on Friday in a game that turned into a high-scoring affair. Hartselle came from behind to win 20-19 in their final at-bat.

Hartselle went into bracket play as the No. 2 seed with a bye. They played Blount County again in the semifinals after Blount County defeated Florence. Hartselle made sure that this meeting wouldn’t be like the earlier as they won 15-2 to advance to the finals.

In the finals, Hartselle met Athens, the No. 5 seed. Athens advanced to the finals with wins over Decatur and top-seeded Monrovia. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with Athens taking a 19-14 lead as time expired with Hartselle coming to bat. The 6U Lady Tigers plated six runs in the bottom half of the inning to win 20-19.

Hartselle will be the top seed heading into the Area Tournament this weekend in Madison at Palmer Park. Games begin Thursday night. More information can be found at www.allamericanyouthsports.org/north-alabama-area/.
