God abides forever

 By Todd Barrier

A couple of weeks ago we looked at what the Bible says about loving this world. We focused on 1 John 2:15-16. Today let’s finish those thoughts with 1 John 2:17. The Bible says in 1 John 2:17, “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

In these verses we are reminded of three things that will help us focus on our relationship with God instead of being dragged down by things of this world.

  1. The certainty of the outcome. We are told that this world is passing away; it will not last.
  1.  We are reminded the things (the lust of it) of this world that we replace God with are on the way out as well.
  1. We are told by God that those who stick with Him and do His will are on a different path, not one that passes away, but one that lasts forever.

These three things should encourage us and motivate us to love God and live our life for Him because this world is not eternal, but a relationship with Him is.
