Hartselle students to perform outdoor concert Saturday

This Saturday, students from Hartselle City Schools will be performing summer-themed songs at EARTH Park to help raise funds for an upcoming national competition.

The theme of the evening is ‘Summer Lovin’ and will feature summer-themed songs that fit the mood of the season, performed by HCS students from Hartselle High School’s International Thespian Society Troupe 8419 and Hartselle Junior High School’s ITS Troupe 89739.

“We hope people will bring their lawn chairs or beach towels and enjoy some good music,” Lisa King, Hartselle City Schools’ drama teacher said.

Among King’s HCS students are Kennedy Cataline, Lily Collins, Calvin Lindsey, Laura Lundy, Lauren Maxson and Kooper Rooks, who will be competing June 19-24 in the International Thespian Festival at Indiana University.

In February, the students earned a bid to nationals by scoring a Superior score during the Alabama Thespian Festival, and they are now looking for ways to raise money to cover the costs of the upcoming trip.

The event is free, but donations will be gladly accepted.

“We are so excited to see the department growing and the students’ continued success.  We appreciate the communities support for the arts,” says King.

The fundraising and spirit-lifting performances be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at EARTH Park, 215 Barkley St SW.
