    Obituaries week of April 19

    Glenda Faye Dunaway

    Funeral service for Glenda Faye Dunaway, 77, was held Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Josh Sparkman and Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Forrest Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Dunaway died, Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Country Cottage in Decatur. She was born August 3, 1945, in Morgan County, to Homer Lester Johnson and Lillie Inez Waugh Johnson. She was a caregiver and homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was an active member of the No Fences Cowboy Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Paul Dunaway, and her parents. Survivors include daughter, Misty Dunaway Latham (Rob), Carrollton, Ga.; son, Jason Paul Dunaway, North Carolina; brother, Robert Douglas Johnson, Falkville, Ala.; grandchildren, Jared Latham, Riley Latham, Jayden Dunaway and Alexis Sanders and aunt, Laverne Thompson. Pallbearers were Rob Latham, James Dunaway, Leldon Lacey, Jared Latham, Jayden Dunaway and Christopher Stricklin.

     

    Arron Kyle Hyatt

    Funeral service for Arron Kyle Hyatt, 42, was held Saturday, April 15, 2023
    at 2 p.m. at Bethel Methodist Church with Bro. Nicky James officiating and
    Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Hyatt died Friday, April 7, 2023, at USA Health University Hospital, in Mobile. He was born July 11, 1980, in Morgan County, to Donnie Hugh
    Hyatt and Myra Hyatt. He was a Carpenter, employed by Lindsey Construction, prior to his passing. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include mother, Myra Hyatt; daughters, Amber Hyatt and Lilly Hyatt; brothers, Marcus Hyatt (Sharayha)
    and Brandon Hyatt (Allison); four nieces and nephews.

    Larry McClung
    Falkville
    Funeral service for Larry McClung, 74, was held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 5 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Martin Steelmon officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. McClung died Monday, April 10, 2023, at his residence. He was born November 21, 1948, in Ohio, to Clarence O’Neal McClung and Mary Helen Blazer Stinson. He was the owner and operator of Parkway Auto Sales, prior to his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, Jeff McClung. Survivors include wife, Kathy Lackey McClung; daughter, Dana Beasley; sisters, Ruth Baker and Betty Hill; grandchildren, Billy Heath McClung (Madilyn), Lauren Crittendon (Greg) and Jordan Beasley (Christina); great grandchildren, Ali McClung, Cayson McClung, Greyson Dudley, Ruby Grace Dudley, Lillie Jane Crittendon, Anna Kate Beasley and Tatum McClung.

     

    Sharron Chaffin Queen
    Hartselle
    Funeral service for Sharron Chaffin Queen, 73, was held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Houston Church of God with Bro. T.J. Milligan officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Houston Church of God Cemetery. Ms. Queen died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at her residence. She was born August 8, 1949, in Cullman County, to Arthur Brown Chaffin and Katie Williams Chaffin. She was employed as an Account Services Manager for Bell South, prior to her retirement and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents. and a sister, Sandra Barta. Survivors include daughters, Holly Goodwin (David), Jennifer K. Rogers (Craig), and Dana Floyd; brother, Arthur Dale Chaffin; sisters, Janie Scarcelli and Kim Faulkner (Ron); seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Landon Robinson, Garrett Rogers, Frankie Melson, Austin Bradley, Jacob Nicklof and Dale Chaffin.

     

    Glenda White
    Hartselle
    Funeral service for Glenda White, 81, was held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at
    1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Duck River Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. White died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Tennessee. She was born May 28, 1941, in Cullman County, to Clifford Stewart and Irona Marry Stewart. She was employed by AT &T prior to her retirement and was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to garden, loved flowers, loved her friends and just recently visited Greece a few months ago. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clifford and Irona Stewart, a sister, Thelma Counts and brothers, Uyless Stewart and James “Jr.” Stewart.
    Survivors include sons, Terry White and Jerry White (Paula); sister, Cleo Shroyer; grandchild, Patrick White. Pallbearers were family and friends.

     

    Roy McBride Johnston

    Funeral service for Roy McBride Johnston, 85, was held Saturday, April 15,
    2023 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bryan Blass officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Mr. Johnston died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his residence. He was born October 1, 1937, in Jefferson County to D B Johnston and Naomi Jones Johnston. He was self-employed as a subcontractor prior to his retirement. Mr. Johnston was an active member of the Central Baptist Church of Decatur and passed away after a two- year battle with cancer. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, John Boyd Johnston. Survivors include wife, Linda O’Bar Johnston; son, Michael Alan Johnston (Angela); daughter, Susan Leigh Johnston; four grandchildren, Connor Johnston, Landon Fanning (Becca), Sydney Johnston and Lydia Fanning; three step-grandchildren, Clarissa O’Connor, Carmen O’Connor and Maximillian Rivers. Pallbearers were Landon Fanning, Chase Hancock, Maximillian Rivers and Connor Johnston. Family request in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Romanian American Mission or to Central Baptist Church in Decatur.

    Linda Coggins, 75, of Hartselle, Ala., passed peacefully, with family by
    her side, April 12, 2023. Linda, the daughter of Edwin and Juanita Blevins,
    was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on January 26, 1948. Linda graduated from
    Washington High School in Washington, Oklahoma, in 1965. Linda attended and
    graduated barber school in 1967 and married her husband of 55 years, Connel
    Edward Coggins in December of that year. She worked as a beautician for more
    than 40 years, as she and her husband traveled across the country for his
    career. She and Connel created friends and memories in Blanchard and El
    Reno, Oklahoma, and Laurel and Louisville, Mississippi, among many other
    places, before settling in Hartselle, Alabama, where they lived for the last
    25 years. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Juanita, and her
    brother, Edwin Lavern Blevins, and is survived by her husband, Connel; son,
    Jason and his wife, Nancy of Norman, Okla; daughter, Amee Shaw and her
    husband, Chris of Moore, Okla., along with three beautiful granddaughters,
    Katie and Carsen Coggins and Lennon Shaw. Linda loved journaling, doing
    hair, researching ancestry, and reading. She loved her family well and will
    be greatly missed. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held for friends and family at a later
    date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Linda’s memory be

    Mr. Roger E. Watkins, 80, died, Friday, April 14, 2023, at his residence. He was born February 14, 1943, in Jefferson County, to J.T. Watkins and Mary Kyle Terry Watkins. He was employed as an engineer for Bell South and also served in the National Guard for 20 years, prior to his retirement. Mr. Watkins was a Licensed Professional Counselor with an EDS in Counseling from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He served as a Pastor at various churches near Double Springs, Ala. He loved helping others and was instrumental in starting Christian Place Mission in Nauvoo, Ala. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother-in-law, George Curley. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Johnson Watkins, Decatur; sons, Roger Edward Watkins, Jr. (Debora), Holiday, Fla. and Joel Todd Watkins, Holiday, FL; stepdaughters, Ginger Ballard Boyd, Falkville and Shana Johnson Odom (Chris), Hartselle; sister, Nancy Watkins Curley, Dadeville; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. No services were scheduled at this time.
