Jerry “Goose” Thomas McClure

Funeral service for Jerry “Goose” Thomas McClure, 55, was held Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 4 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Henderson and Bro. Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Center Cemetery. Mr. McClure died Monday, April 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born November 15, 1967, in Franklin County, Tenn., to Gordon Thomas McClure and Autrey Novella George McClure. He was a member of the Soul Harbor Baptist Church and a former owner of Kountry Korner Grocery. “Goos” was a wonderful Christian man and had tremendous patience. He loved being a PaPaw, loved God, his family and
farming. He loved and respected everyone with his genuine spirit. He was the happiest when he was in the outdoors on a piece of equipment or on a tractor. He was retired from the City of Hartselle where he was an equipment operator with 25 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Doug McClure. Survivors include wife, Belinda Halbrooks McClure; sons, Anthony Ricks and Jeremy Roberts (Ashley); daughter, Toni Michelle Roberts; sister, Nancy Scott; nine grandchildren, Kory Ricks, William Ricks, Gwen Ricks, Matt Sims, Kyle Sims, Ava Ricks, Novella Roberts, Matthew Roberts and Audrey Roberts. Pallbearers were Anthony Ricks, Jeremy Roberts, Kory Ricks, Bob Terpay, Michael Halbrooks and Ryan Halbrooks. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeremiah Halbrooks, Matt and Kyle Sims, Braxton Halbrooks and Easton Dove.

John T. Moody

John Thomas Moody passed Monday, April 3, 2023. At 86, he was at peace
knowing he had lived his best life this side of heaven. John was born August 28, 1936, to William and Estelle A. Moody. He grew up with a large family that included nine siblings; James, J.D., William, David, Ann Hatfield, Marie Houser, Irene Baker, Francis Speegle and Ollie Martin. In 1958, John married the love of his life, Kathleen Oden. He would tell you that she was the reason they both lived so long. The two of them raised four children, Belinda Whisenant, Barbara Letson, Becky Speegle (Dewayne) and Thomas Moody (Janet). Nothing made John T. happier than his family and he had a large family which included ten grandchildren, Tena, Kim, Nicole,
Waylon, Heather, Randel, Brandon, Angela, Aaron and Sara. There are also twenty-seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. During his life Mr. Moody had the opportunity to share his knowledge and skills with men from Decatur Utilities. As a young man he was a heavy equipment operator and retired after 25 years as supervisor in the gas
department. Mr. Moody was loved by many, but he also loved many. He lived in Priceville
nearly his entire life and was known by most everyone. Whether speaking to family or friends everyone has a funny story or great memory of a time shared with John T. Mr. Moody is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his four children; sister, Ann Hatfield (Raymond); and many, many family members. A private service was planned for the immediate family. Peck Funeral Home assisted the family. In lieu of flowers family requests please make donations to Hospice of the Valley in John’s memory.

Donna Sue Townson

Funeral service for Donna Sue Townson, 58, was held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Geoff Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Townson died on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born August 25, 1964, to Ronnie Joe White and Opal Marthell Johnson White. Her father preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Danville High School. She will be greatly missed. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, please make donations to: The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023. Survivors include husband, Kelly Townson; son, Benjamin Townson (Casey); sisters, Dora Hartsock (Steve) and Marshell Carlson (Mark); brother, Gary White; grandchildren, Jessie Wayne Smith and Leila Smith. Pallbearers were Adam Tucker, JR. Allen, Carl Harvill, Chelcie Ellis, Mark Carlson and Jimmy Lake.

Roy Russell Moses
Hartselle
Funeral service for Roy Russell Moses, 85, was held Friday, April 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray McNutt officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Moses died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born June 16, 1937, to Roy Moses and Minerva E. Shadden Moses.
He was employed by Compton’s Construction, prior to his retirement but his enjoyment came from carpentry. He had a business in making oak furniture. He loved watching westerns but most of all loved his family. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Michael Moses and a daughter, Deidre Short. Survivors include wife, Valeria Oliver Moses; daughter, Penny Pittman (Dustin); brother, James Moses (Janice); grandchildren, Jason Short, Rocky Short and Lauren Moses. Pallbearers were Dustin Pittman, Jason Short, Rocky Short and Ernie Moses.

Lenda A. Dodd
Hartselle
Funeral service for Lenda A. Dodd, 76, was held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Hartselle with Bro. Jordan Dodd and Bro. David Deckard officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Hartselle City Cemetery, immediately following the funeral service. Mrs. Dodd died Wednesday, April 5, at her residence. She was born July 26, 1946, in Mobile County, to James Robert Fortner and Betty Beilhart Fortner. She graduated from Phil Campbell High School and then married her sweetheart, Grady Dodd in 1966. Together, they had 3 children, James, Tim and Beckey and six grandchildren. Lenda accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and served Him with her amazing gift of cooking for many years. If you know her, you are probably thinking of your favorite dish she made for you to nurse you back to health or to
celebrate a life event. She was a selfless servant who found such joy in her children and grandchildren. Lenda is survived by husband, Grady Dodd; sons, James G. Dodd (Angie) and Timothy L. Dodd (Danielle); daughter, Beckey S. Jones; brother, Glen Fortner; grandchildren, Tyler Dodd, Andrew Dodd, Jordan Dodd, Savannah Greene, Justin Ogle and Alyssa Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Fortner. Pallbearers were Tyler Dodd, Andrew Dodd, Justin Ogle, Kris Fortner, Christopher Greene and Chris Wilson.

 

Jimmy Shadden

Funeral service for Jimmy Shadden, 79, was held Monday, April 10, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Barber and Bro Stanley Reeves officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Herring Cemetery. Mr. Shadden died Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born December 20, 1943, in Morgan County, to Russell Henry Shadden and Sarah Evelyn McCullough Shadden, who preceded him in death. He was employed by General Motors as a machinist, prior to his retirement. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include wife, Ann Shadden; sons, Greg Shadden (Renee) and Gary Shadden (Christi); daughter, Stephanie Engle (Jeff); brothers, Steve Shadden and Richard Shadden; sisters, Barbara Crow, Peggy Blair, Shelia Baker, and Tracy Tidwell; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandson and nephews.

 

Jesse Owens, Sr.
Hartselle
Funeral service for Jesse Owens, Sr., 83, was held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Justin Smith officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Mr. Owens passed away, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at his residence. He was born January 28, 1940, in Morgan County, to Robert L. Owens and Dorothy Reed Owens. Mr. Owens was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a master sergeant, prior to his retirement. He retired with 24 years of service in active military, has been a member of the masons for 43 years and was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Owens and his parents. Family wishes to express a special thanks to the nurses of Hospice of the Valley. Survivors include son, Jesse Owens, Jr. (Peggy); daughter, Leisa Owens (Brad Lindley); brother, Brooks Owens (Linda); grandchildren, Crissy Defenthaler (Joey), Kelley Rutherford (Chandler) and Jessica Smith (Jordan); great grandchildren, Millie Defenthaler, Boss Reutherford, Tucker Smith and Sutton Smith. Pallbearers were Brad Lindley, Joey Defenthaler, Chandler Rutherford, Jordan Smith, Roy Defenthaler and David Owens. Honorary pallbearers were Boss Rutherford and Tucker Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
