The Danville Lady Hawks traveled to Gulf Shores this past week to participate in the Gulf Coast Classic. They played four of their five games against teams from outside Alabama, including Centennial from Franklin, Tenn.

Danville fell to Centennial 3-2 on Tuesday at the Gulf Coast Classic. The game was tied at two with Centennial batting in the bottom of the fifth when Shenandoah University commit Makayla Cox singled on a 2-1 count, scoring Alabama commit Lauren Johnson.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Centennial sophomore Sydney Lord and Johnson (W) combined to strike out five, while Danville’s McKinley McCaghren and Hannah Tillman struck out four.

McKinley McCaghren took the loss for the Hawks. She allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three. She added a double at the plate.

Sydney Lord started the game for Centennial. The righty allowed six hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Danville’s Adily Alberti hit a home run, while Kirstyn Robinson went 3-for-3 at the plate. Isabella Guest scored a run, while third basemen Aubrey Reed got a hit.

“We had a lot of bright spots with our freshman,” head coach Christy Ferguson said. “Adily Alberti hit our first home run of the year, and our freshman catcher Kirstyn Robinson threw out a runner at second. In addition, we had an eighth grader on the mound, McKinley McCaghren. Our future is bright.”
