Priceville basketball teams advance to sub-regionals
The Priceville boys and girls basketball teams advanced to the sub-regionals with runner-up finishes in the 4A Area 13 tournament last week.
The Lady Bulldogs opened their tournament with a 62-32 win over West Morgan. Sophomore Leslie Hames led Priceville with 17 points. Senior Lauren Hames scored 10 points, while freshman Abby Langlois had eight points and six rebounds. The win secures the Lady Bulldogs a spot in the area championship and the 4A sub-regional.
In the area championship game, Priceville fell to top-ranked Good Hope 62-59. The Lady Bulldogs used a furious fourth-quarter rally that ultimately came up short, outscoring the Lady Raiders 24-12. Good Hope led 51-35 heading into the final quarter.
Ashlyn John led Priceville with 15 points, while Gracin Prater had 12. Leslie Hames finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Langlois had nine points and eight rebounds.
Hames went over the 500-point mark for the season in the loss.
Priceville earned a spot in the 4A Area 13 championship with a 66-63 come-from-behind win over Good Hope in the tournament’s first round at West Morgan.
The Bulldogs trailed 12-0 to start the game but rallied to take a 35-34 lead at the half. Priceville took a 50-46 lead into the final quarter. The game saw four tie scores in the final 3:29, with the last coming with 1:24 on the clock after two Good Hope Free throws.
Priceville’s final possession came after a Raider’s missed field goal. However, the Bulldogs successfully ran the clock down to under five seconds when the ball ended up in the hands of Jake Langlois, who launched the game-winning three-pointer with under three seconds remaining.
Sammy Holmes led Priceville with 26 points. Cole Lindeman added 16, while Langlois had nine.
In the championship game, the Bulldogs fell to West Morgan 60-43. The game was tied 16-16 at the half. However, the Rebels outscored Priceville 25-14 in the third quarter to bust the game open.
Tyler Case finished with 13 points to lead Priceville.
