Priceville girls wins second straight Morgan County Tournament

DANVILLE – The Priceville Lady Bulldogs won their second straight Morgan County Tournament with a 79-24 win over Falkville in the championship game this past Saturday.

“I’m very proud of the focus of our team this week,” Priceville coach Terrie Nelson said. “They brought energy and competed on every possession. They really wanted to “Repeat” so they worked hard to make that happen.”

Sophomore Leslie Hames was named the tournament MVP following her 28 points, four rebounds and three steals in the win over Falkville.

“I’m so proud of Leslie. She is a very hard worker and is a special scorer,” Nelson said. “I have enjoyed watching her hard work pay off. It was a very special night for Leslie that I know she will never forget. Her teammates and coaches are so happy for her.”

Joining her on the All-Tournament team were teammates Lauren Hames, Zoey Benson and Ashlyn Johnson.

Others on the team were Falkville’s Ellie Cate Hill, Ella and Liza Wallace, West Morgan’s Ansley Terry and Karly Terry, Brewer’s Lilly Yancey and Jacey Atkinson, as well as Danville’s Alyssa Brooks and Elisabeth Hand.

Championship
Priceville girls 79, Falkville 24
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first four minutes of the first quarter before taking a 26-6 lead into the second quarter. They increased their lead to 51-16 at halftime and 75-18 heading into the final quarter.

Leslie Hames finished with 28 points, four rebounds and three steals to lead Priceville (14-6). Freshman Abby Langlois finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Benson had 10 points and nine rebounds. Lauren Hames added 16 points.

Ellie Cate Hill led Falkville with 11 points.

Priceville defeated Falkville in last season’s championship game 66-37.

Semifinals
Priceville 65, Danville 27
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 26-8 after the first quarter. They led 47-17 at halftime and 65-25 after three quarters.

Lauren Hames finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead Priceville. Sister Leslie added 12 points.

Elisabeth Hand led Danville with seven points.

Falkville 46, West Morgan 41
The Blue Devils led most of the game before West Morgan went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two points with 2:36 remaining. However, Falkville rallied and held off the Lady Rebels for the 46-41 win.

Ellie Cate Hill finished with 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Falkville. Ella Wallace had 10 points and Abby Grace Tomlin added seven.

Chasity Rikard finished with 12 points to lead West Morgan. Brooklyn Hunt, Brandy Hernandez and Shaylee Terry each added seven points.

First Round
Danville 37, Brewer 30

The Lady Hawks turned a two-point deficit at halftime into a 31-20 lead going into the final quarter after outsourcing Brewer 13-0 in the third quarter.

Adily Alberti finished with 11 points and four steals to lead Danville. Alyssa Brooks added seven points and six rebounds.

Jacey Atkinson and Madisyn Freeman had seven points each for Brewer.
