William “Bill” Drinkard

Funeral service for William “Bill” Drinkard, 79, was held Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Long officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Lawrence Cove Cemetery. Mr. Drinkard died Sunday, December 11, 2022 at AHC Millennium Healthcare in Huntsville. He was born April 3, 1943, in Morgan County, to John Auburn Drinkard and Katherine Julie Wilson Drinkard. He was employed by Russell Forest Products as contract labor, prior to his retirement. He loved piddling in his yard and with lawn mowers and he loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Linda and Maeblu Drinkard and brothers, Miles and Jake Drinkard. Survivors include wife, Dorothy Bird Drinkard; sons, Danny Drinkard (Stacy) and Billy Ray Drinkard; sister, Mary Frances Hall; grandchildren, Justin Drinkard, Danny Ray Drinkard, Jr., Dustin Drinkard and Austin Drinkard. Pallbearers were family and friends.

Russell L. Johnson

A graveside funeral service and interment for Russell L. Johnson, 69, was held Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Somerville Historical Cemetery with Geoff Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Johnson died Monday, December 12, 2022 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born December 17, 1952, in Morgan County, to Aubrey Johnson and Orene Brown Johnson. He was employed by UAB as an accountant, prior to his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family dearly and also enjoyed fishing and Alabama football. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: Howard Johnson and Kenneth Lipscomb. Survivors include wife, Rejina Johnson; sons, Ian Johnson and Ben Johnson; grandson, Bentley Johnson.

Mary “Betty” Lockhart

Funeral services for Mary “Betty” Lockhart, who passed away December 13, 2022, were held in the Peck Funeral Home chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2022. Burial was held in Hartselle City Cemetery. She was born August 20, 1928, in Morgan County, to H. Leonard Heflin and Yetta Lee Sobokta Heflin. Betty graduated from Alabama College (now the University of Montevallo), in 1949 she then received an M.S. degree from Alabama A&M University, in 1972 and taught first grade at Crestline Elementary School, 1970-89. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Hartselle. Preceded in death by parents, brother Robert Franklin Heflin and husband John Howard Lockhart. Survived by daughter, Abigail H. Lockhart, Lilburn, Georgia, and sons, Timothy J. Lockhart (Anne), Norfolk, Va., and Andrew H. Lockhart (Leslie), Huntsville; three grandchildren, Jackson T. Lockhart (McKinley), Bailey H. Lockhart and Margaret E.G. Lockhart. Pallbearers were family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hartselle First United Methodist Church Capital Fund.

Funeral service for Jack Henderson, 87, was held Saturday, December 17, 2022
at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating
and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Blue Springs Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Henderson passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was born October 17, 1935, in Morgan County, to Ben Henderson and Gracie Allen Henderson. He was employed as an electrician for the Decatur location of 3M Company for 30 years, prior to his retirement. He also was an electrician in the United States Navy, where he worked on Aircraft carriers. He was an avid horseshoe player and was included in many state and national tournaments. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Tidwell Henderson and his parents. Survivors include son, Michael Henderson (Melissa); daughter, Kay Wigginton (Kenneth); brother, Sherman Henderson (Doris);
sister, Shelby Brackins; three grandchildren, Nick Wigginton, Austin Wigginton and Autumn Rook (David); one great-grandchild, Skyler Wigginton. Pallbearers were family and friends.

Boyce G. Holt

Funeral service for Boyce G. Holt, 84, was held Monday, December 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Holt died Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Central Baptist Hospital in Kentucky. He was born July 20, 1938, in Morgan County, to Oceola “Ocey” Holt and Ovada Betterton Holt. As a child, he would conduct wild scientific experiments out in the country. He was a lover of nature and geology, the sciences and history. He worked for AT&T from 1960 until the late 1980s, then went to Coca Cola. He lived in Fort Mitchell, Ky. at this time from 1972-92, then Lakeside Park, Ky. and Georgetown, Ky. from 1992-2018. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60, serving in Korea, Japan and Scotland, where he met his wife to be Jean Mcleish Franks. He became the ultimate family man and was dearly loved by his family in Alabama, Canada and Scotland. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to reach out to anyone in need. He was kind, a lover of animals, enjoyed camping and hiking and was the type of selfless man that made his family proud. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kyle Holt and Thomas Holt. Survivors include wife, Jean Mcleish Holt, Lexington, Ky.; son, Glynn Holt, Clearwater, Fla.; daughter, Kelly Jean (Holt) Chambers; sister, Virginia Holt Lokey.

Betty Jones

Graveside funeral service for Betty Jones, 91, of Cullman was held Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Jones was born March 30, 1931 in Cullman, Ala. to Lonnie McGriff and Bell Lee McGriff. She passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church in Cullman. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Gearld Jones, and son, Ben Jones. Survivors include son, Jerry Jones (Sandra); brother, Curtis McGriff; two sisters, Ellen Currol and Jean Wynn; grandson, Garret Jones and three great-grandchildren.

Marvin Burgess passed away December 8, 2022, in Huntsville Hospital. He was 89. He was born in Huntsville, Ala. to Jesse James Burgess and Daisy Mae Burgess. He was also known as Smokey Burgess and Kingfisher. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lilly Catherine Burgess and one son, Marvin Glenn Burgess. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry W. Burgess and a daughter Brenda S. Aldridge. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Sloan, Timothy G. Aldridge, Jennifer Peters, Matthew G. Burgess, Paul G. Burgess and Samantha E. Burgess; also 3 great grand-children, Sullivan Sloan, Adalynn Peters and Hudson Peters. He served 3.5 years in the National Guard and Army, serving two years in the Korean War. He worked at General Motors, Fisher Body plant in Willow Springs, Ill. for 16 years as a tool and die repairman, later working as a machinist in Alabama, Texas and Louisiana. He retired in 1985, and lived out his days in Hartselle, Ala.

Melba Sue Hudson Eyerly, 81, died Friday, December 16, 2022 at The Terrace at Priceville. She was born October 10, 1941, in Cullman County, to Asa Hudson and Georgia Barnett Hudson. She was employed by Etson Rentals as an accountant, prior to her retirement. She attended Seventh Street Baptist Church, loved her family and loved her dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond L. Eyerly and her parents. Survivors include stepson, Randy Eyerly; brother, Allen Hudson (Hannah); sisters, Willadean Hudson Gambrell and Bennie Jo Hudson deYampert; many other cousins, nieces and nephews. No services were scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research.

Chilton Thomas Vest

Funeral Service for Chilton Thomas Vest, 82, of Decatur will be Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Vest officiating with burial in the Oak Ridge Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Vest was born August 22, 1940 in Morgan County, Ala. to Bennett Vest and Verna Kitchens Vest. He passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 at River City Rehab. Chilton was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He worked for Cullman Cabinet Shop for over 30 years and retired to work in his own cabinet shop. Chilton was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Guy Rutledge. He was a lifelong member of the Nun-Oden Masonic Lodge. He was a master wood craftsman. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Burns Vest; two sons, Michael Vest (Tammy) and Steven Vest (Tira); two daughters, Melissa Zona (Joshua) and Amanda Pounders; brother Dennis Rutledge (Betty.)

Clyde Lynn Davis

Funeral for Clyde Lynn Davis, 79 formerly of Hartselle, Ala. will be Wednesday December 21, 2022 at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with service at 7 p.m. Mr. Davis will be cremated after and remains placed in Smryny Cemetery. Mr. Davis, who died Tuesday, December 13, 2022, was born August 22, 1943 in Tipton County, Tenn. to Bertis Floyd Davis and Lillie Belle Lindley Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Annie Sue Borden and Alice Carolyn Taylor and brothers, Harold Davis and Floyd Davis. Survivors include four children, Charlotte Drake (Curtis) of Utica, Ky.; Burtis Davis (Lisa) of Glenwood, Utah; Mary Mattingly (Jeff Francis) of Entiat, Wash.; Gregory Wheatley (Crystal) of Ringgold, Ga.; one brother, Burtis Davis of Leesburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, David Jarvis, Jesse Davis, Jared Davis, Courtney Hillard, Austin Bayne, Jaycie Prisbrey, Bryson Mattingly, Kenzie Bagley, Wyatt Davis, Piper Wheatley. Nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Vadie Christine Wallace McLamb, 91, will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Begemann officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. Mrs. McLamb died Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born November 22, 1931, in Morgan County, to Joe Cephus Wallace and Victoria Roper Wallace. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and worked 41 years as a nurse at Parkway Medical Center, where she retired in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. McLamb, her parents, and siblings, Estelle Wallace Vest, Clyde Wallace, Sherman Wallace, Shirley Wallace, Hilton Wallace, Lucian Wallace, Alton Wallace, Robert Wallace, Trumon Wallace and Tillman Wallace. Survivors include son, Michael McLamb (Kelly Cole McLamb); grandchild, Aubrey McLamb and
a host of nieces and nephews.
