Graveside service for Ronald Edward Wallace, 70, of Hartselle was held Monday, November 14, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Sammy Evans officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Wallace, who was born November 7, 1952 in Hartselle, Alabama to Roy Sherrill Wallace and Reba Jo Slate Wallace, died Friday, November 11, 2022 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. 

Ronald retired from General Motors, was a member of Victory Fellowship Church in Falkville and loved the Lord. He coached youth league baseball for about 15 years, loved Alabama football, was a history buff, loved to travel and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in whatever they were doing. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Beth Lee. Survivors include wife, Susan Wallace; son, Jason Wallace (Kasey); daughter, Lara Watson (Matt); brother, Randell Wallace; grandchildren, Savannah Lee, Madeline Watson, Samantha Watson, John Russell Lee, Hampton Wallace, Sally Wallace and Luke Watson. John Russell Lee, Hampton Wallace, Luke Watson, John Pat Orr, Ellis Johns, James Powers, Mike Ward, Bobby Speake and Doug Weinman served as pallbearers.

Charlotte Dauphinais died Saturday, November 12, 2022. She was born August 13, 1945, in Cook County, Illinois to Frank Whipple and Ada Hall Whipple. Born in Chicago, she moved to Florida and managed several restaurants there in her career before moving to Georgia and again managed restaurants. She then moved to Alabama and was living with her daughter and son-in law and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Fred and Jerry Whipple and two sisters, Deb Zelensky and Charlene Black. Survivors include sons, Herbert Wayne Meares and Frank William King; daughter, Elizabeth Margaret Johnson (Tony); ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. No services were scheduled at this time. 

Betty Holmes Depreast

Funeral service for Betty Holmes Depreast, 85, was held November 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Campbell and Rev. Jeff Griffis officiating. Betty died peacefully at Decatur-Morgan Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was born in Morgan County, Alabama, September 2, 1937 to Coleman and Joyce Holmes. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. In her earlier years, Betty, along with her sister, Gayle Terry, was the co-owner of The Children’s Shop in Hartselle. She also worked for several years at The Little Red Schoolhouse. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her two grandchildren, James and Laura, were the light of her life. Before her health began to decline, Betty enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband, and was involved in many church activities. Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Louis Depreast; two daughters, Cindy Depreast and Beth Newman (Jim); two grandchildren, James Newman and Laura Newman; two sisters, Gayle Terry and Jane Harrison (Frank), and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Naveen Lobo and Dr. Mitchell Schuster, along with the staff members of both offices, for their compassionate care.

Windsor died on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Riverside Assisted Living. He was born August 1, 1930, in Morgan County, to Herman Roosevelt Windsor and Annie Laura Humphrey Windsor.  He was a minister for many years for the Methodist Churches. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Jean Johnson Windsor and his
parents. Survivors include sons, Dale Windsor (Paula) and Dewane Windsor (Melanie); sister,
Francine Gilchrist (Skeggs); grandchildren, Jenae Cox, Whitney Windsor (Jessica), Paxton Windsor (Amanda) and Brooke Jenkins (Walker); great grandchildren, Loreali, Amelia and Ella Cox, Daylen Cox, Grant Cox, Courtney and Marley. Pallbearers were family and friends. 

Jerry David Haynes

A memorial service for Jerry David Haynes, 76, was held Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Brakefield officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Haynes died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born September 7, 1946, in Lawrence County, to Jesse David Haynes and Elenore Roy Haynes. He was a mechanic by trade, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on projects. Mr. Haynes was a United States Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Gary, Winford and Stanley Haynes. Survivors include son, Jeremy Scott Haynes; daughter, Angela Lynn Meiergerd (Justin); brothers, Keith Haynes (Tina), Kenny Haynes (Angie), Tim Haynes (Francis) and Steve Haynes (Carol); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service for Larry E. Maples, 71, was held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Pope and Bro. Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Center Cemetery. Mr. Maples died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at his residence. He was born July 6, 1951, in Morgan County, to Glenn Oakley Maples and Edith Odessa Parker Maples. Larry was an avid Alabama Fan and enjoyed going to the “Tider Insider” meetings. He graduated from Morgan County High School, Class of 1969. His grandchildren called him “Grand Larry.” He worked at Monsanto for 16 years before going to work for General Motors where he worked 26 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, J.T. Maples and Frankie Maples, one sister, Glendell Terry McCaghren, and two nieces, Christina “Sissy” Maples and Robin Terry Ferrell. Survivors include wife, June Henderson Maples; sons, Donnie Reeder (Lisa) and John Reeder (Carol); daughter, Jan Langston (David); brothers, Jimmy Maples (Charlotte) and Avery Maples (Carol); brother-in-law,
Hoyt McCaghren; sisters, Kathryn Monk (Frank) and Tammy Whitten (Randy); sister-in-law, Brenda Maples; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Linda Hammon Johnson, 74, of Hartselle, died November 18, 2022. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Johnson was born April 28, 1948 in Morgan County to James Madison Hammon and Mamie Louise Duncan Hammon. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Ray Johnson; and three brothers, Wayne Hammon, Myles Hammon and David Hammon. Survivors Include son, Chuck Johnson (Nancy); daughters, Dinah Johnson (Brad) and Lane Johnson Montgomery; sister, Sandra Olson; grandchildren, Tucker Montgomery (Keirstyn), Lily Sawyer, Sarah Johnson and Katie Johnson; great grandchild, Kolten Montgomery.  

Dennis “Dinky” Free

A celebration of life service for Dennis “Dinky” Free, 63, was held Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Stewart Street Church of God of Prophecy with Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Free died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born June 30, 1959, in Morgan County, to Calvin J. Free and Elizabeth Lawrimore Free. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward Glenn Free and Charles Ervin Free. Survivors include wife, Jennifer Free; children, Jennifer deQuesada, Charlotte Robinson, Dustin Free and Timothy Peebles; brother, Willard Thomas Free; sister, Deborah Childs; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service and interment for Linda “Pennie” Segars, 77, was held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing. Linda “Pennie” Segars, beloved Matriarch of her family, peacefully passed away surrounded by her closest loved ones early Thursday, November 17, 2022, at her residence. She was born September 9, 1945, in Red Willow County, Nebraska, to Herbert William Wallace and Dora May Motter. She enjoyed traveling, painting and spending time at her lake house. She was employed as a Bailiff for Morgan County Courthouse, prior to her retirement. Preceding her in death were her husband, Roman Segars, a son, Wayne Segars, a sister, Janet Woodall and her parents. Survivors include daughter, Dawn Segars; brothers, Bill Wallace and Curtis Wallace; two grandchildren, Joel Rowland (Elizabeth) and Kelli Metz; and five great-grandchildren 

Amanda Nadine Thornton Morris

Funeral service for Amanda Nadine Thornton Morris, 32, was held Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Morris died Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born July 22, 1990, in Panama City, Fla. to Robin Thornton and Felecia Brown Thornton. Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her father. Amanda was a brave, courageous and beautiful person who had the biggest heart and would do anything to help others. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and loved children. She had a special bond with her mother and her mother was blessed to have her as a daughter. Survivors include husband, Brian Morris; mother, Felecia Oden (Jerry); brother, Justin Charboneau’ step-sister, Sarah Renae Lim’ mother-in-law, Brenda Gilbert; uncles, Jonathan Ray (Tracy) and Tommy Brown; aunts, Amy Nichols, Melissa Brown and Lois Brown.

Mrs. Fagan passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Summerford Health and Rehabilitation.  She was born July 5, 1934, in Morgan County, to Kennie Walter Duke and Josephine McBrayer Duke. She was born and raised in Decatur, was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother for her family, whom she loved so dearly. She enjoyed planting, growing and tending flower gardens, watching the birds and cooking
for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Amos Fagan and her parents. Survivors include son, David Fagan (Patti); daughters, JoRene Thomas (Scott) and Rebecca DeMike (Greg); seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren.

Ms. Stringer died Friday, November 11, 2022 at UAB Hospital. She was born November 28, 1957, in Morgan County, to James Harvey Beggs, Jr. And Patricia Lurlene Swader Beggs. She was employed by Chrysler on the assembly line, prior to her passing. Her mother preceded her in death. Survivors include father, James Harvey Beggs, Jr.; son, Derek Neil Stringer; brother, Richard Lane Beggs (Lanny); sister, Patricia June Beggs; niece, Andrea Maroney.

Donald Lee Kirkpatrick, Sr., 75, of Pulaski passed away November 17, 2022. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was born April 5, 1947 to the late Horace Lee and Mary Elizabeth Slate Kirkpatrick. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Jean Briscoe and his stepson, John “Squirrel” Campbell. Survivors include his wife, Janice Rose Kirkpatrick of Pulaski; his sons, Donald Kirkpatrick, Jr. and wife Sarah of Athens and Daniel Kirkpatrick and wife Maranda of Somerville, Ala.; his step daughter, Michelle Bevels and Jason of Minor Hill; his brothers, Frankie and Larry Kirkpatrick of Hartselle; his sisters, Cornelia Kirkpatrick of Moulton, AL and Donna Turcotte of Decatur, his grandchildren, Weston, Nathan, Dawson, Savannah, Hannah, Mackenzie, Emma, Raven, and Jessica; and his six great grandchildren. Visitation with the family was Sunday, November 20, 2022, with military honors.

Funeral Service for Mr. Stevie Bernard Williams, 59, of Hartselle were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Cowley officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing. Stevie was born April 2, 1963 to Shelby E. (Shelvie) Williams, Jr. and Edith Anne Tapscott Williams in Morgan County, Alabama.  He entered into eternal rest Monday, November 14, 2022 in Somerville, Alabama. He was baptized at an early age and joined in fellowship with Hartselle First Missionary Baptist Church.  As an adult, he connected with and was in fellowship with different congregations.  He developed a close relationship with Rev. Endia J Scruggs and Madkins Chapel CPA Church. Most recently he was under the leadership of Minister Mitchell Cowley and Ward Chapel Church. Stevie was educated in Hartselle and was a 1982 graduate of Hartselle High School. Stevie excelled in sports but, he was an exceptional standout football player across north Alabama. Because Stevie could seek out a hole on any play on the playing field, Stevie was given the name Birddog.  Birddog had exceptional speed and extraordinary football abilities against his opponents. Stevie’s classmate, John Eric Burnum stated the following:  Stevie was a really good guy.  Stevie always had a smile on his face. If you have been a lifetime Hartselle Tiger fan, you know that Stevie was arguably one of the best athletes in Hartselle High School history. Stevie was two times all State RB and received a scholarship to Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.  In 1980, Stevie was awarded first team All-State RB by beating out an athlete named Bo Jackson. He was also second team All-State in 1981. As far as I can ascertain he is the only Hartselle RB to make both first team All-State and second team All-State in two consecutive years. Stevie’s explosive running style and speed led Hartselle all the way to Alabama State Championship contention in 1980 and again in 1981. After playing at Iowa State University, Birddog transferred and played football under the leadership of Sparky Woods at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina. Stevie’s heart never left Hartselle so he decided to end his football career and return home to Alabama.  Stevie developed a career as a premier painter in the Hartselle/Decatur communities.  Stevie was a very sought-after painter and friends and family would seek out his services throughout North Alabama. Stevie loved his family and could start a conversation with any stranger.  He had a caring heart and if he had an issue with you, it wouldn’t last long.  Birddog was quick to forgive.  Stevie was proud of his children and his favorite title was “Papa.”  His nieces and nephews fondly called him, “Uncle Stevie.” Stevie was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents; Shelvie and Knewtie Bell Williams, Bertie and Ethel Tapscott, and Essic Johnson; his brothers, Fredrick Earl Williams and Craig Leo Williams; sister, Darlene Williams; brothers-in-law, Bobby L. Chapman, and James Albert Smith, III. at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Midway Memorial Gardens. Mr. Owens died Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his residence. He was born April 5, 1954, in Lawrence County, to James Thomas Owens and Maggie Lou Hall Owens. Mr. Owens was a loving father and grandfather and loved his grandchildren with all of his heart. He loved to dance at the VFW every Friday night, enjoyed working on small projects, loved to cut-up and never met a stranger. He was an avid Alabama football fan and was always willing to help anyone. He was employed by T & C Stamping as a machine operator, prior to his passing. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: Wallace, Milford, Norman and Dalton Owens. Survivors include sons, Cory Owens and Josh Owens (Tina); brother, Horace Owens; sisters, Phyllis Waters, Margie Hranac, Janice Dutton and Anna Libauskas; grandchildren, Hunter Owens, Kyndall Owens, Maddie Owens, Kennedy Owens and Maggie Owens. Pallbearers were Horace Owens, Cory Owens, Jamie Dutton, Aaron Allen, Kris Owens and Tony Smallwood.
